The scripts I wrote for Sticktory helped the channel grow from 19K to 145K subscribers.
And generated over 11 million views.
This is how I did it:
now you know why Dr Insanity gets at the very least, 1 million views, per video.
don’t fade the method.
this isn’t AI btw.
As a YouTube scriptwriter, I believe this video performed so well because it’s framed as a challenge.
99% of videos on this topic teach. Mark’s video is different. It presented a popular AI method of making money.
And the video shows him trying the method to see if it makes him money or not.
That’s drama. That’s a lot more emotions in play than curiosity.
3 things you should do in your hook.
• Start with, “Welcome to the channel today, my name is blah blah blah…” Yes, we all care about that.
• Value dump in the first few sentences. Tell your audience why you’re the right person to say what you’re about to say. Tell them you have a degree from Harvard and Cambridge.
• Don’t confirm the packaging. Your viewers are smart enough to know you won’t clickbait them.
Just kidding, actually. Please, don’t do these.
if you run a business, making how-to videos will change your life.
• they will get you in search results.
people search for how to do or learn something every day.
• they will attract leads who already know they have a problem. you just have to convince them you have a solution.
you could link them to buy a low ticket product that gets them in the funnel. or a link to a VSL funnel or basically anything! your mind is basically the limit.
• they last years. how-to videos have crazy longevity. there are niches that are dominated by videos posted 6 years ago.
search how to do anything on YouTube. you will see videos made years ago and they rank even higher than latest videos.
this is one of my favorite formats. 9 out of 10 times, they print cash.
Just watched Wolf of Wall Street. This guy is an absolutely black-hat mutherfcker. This who you all look up to?😂
better writing ≠ better video.
typos, bloated sentences, etc. all of that shit don’t matter.
at least, as much as you think.
what matters when you’re scripting videos that people watch?
first, you need to understand a chunk of your audience aren’t watching your video. they’re listening to it while doing chores, reading, etc.
what your scripts really need are these:
• you need to script like a friend is right beside them and talking to them. when you’re explaining stuff to your friends, do you care if your last sentence was too long? no. you care about being understood!
• you need to write simply. simple english always!
• your scripts need to have rhythm. go research the best public speakers and you will notice their speeches have rhythm. to do this in youtube, vary sentence lengths.
• your scripts have to give your audience a reason to watch. that’s where retention techniques and structures come in.
i wrote fiction for years and I believed beautiful writing was the way.
copywriting taught me otherwise.
years of writing videos that generated millions of views has cemented this belief.
better writing ≠ better video.
working online appears cool till you realize you need to spend 16 hours glued to screens every day.
stick to the 9-5, at least you get to put away work by 4 in the evening.
we don’t put away work until we are so exhausted that we just sleep and get to work again the next day.
this is a youtube scripting secret no one else will tell you:
i say it every time that emotions are everything on youtube.
and i’ve posted techniques to help your videos spike emotions.
but do you know there’s a way to weave emotions into every word and line of your script?
and it’s not a technique. it is your feelings when you are writing.
writing transfers emotions. what you feel when you put the words down is felt by the listener.
i remember when i wrote a video that got a lot of comments saying the ending was sad. i was incredibly sad when i wrote the conclusion of the video.
and somehow, people who didn’t even know me felt the emotion.
have you ever asked yourself why interesting lines pop into your head when you’re excited?
but the problem with this is you thinking you need to feel a certain emotion before you write a certain way.
you don’t need to.
you can just force yourself to feel the certain emotions you wish to be evident in your writing.
when i need to write hooks, i’ve realized that excitement is my go-to emotion for the best hooks. so i listen to a couple songs that excite me and write!
when i need to write jokes or a funny video, irreverence and amusement are my go-to emotions. just three minutes of watching comedy does it for me.
now, I don’t need to feel the appropriate emotions before I write the appropriate sections in a script every time.
when I wake up at 5 to write, I’m not always excited.
but I must get in the mood I want when writing the second draft.
this combined with all the storytelling techniques for inciting emotions will drastically improve the quality of your videos. trust me.
