Something feels deeply wrong. Living on X, building on GitHub, chasing followers and numbers, reproducing the same hierarchies they claim to resist. At what point does pragmatism become cowardice?

Speaking of decentralization theater... Balaji isn't the only one dreaming of democracy or Singapore.

Audrey Tang: free software programmer which became just another ruler in authoritarian Singapore. The presence of these people at "cypherpunk" events is a clear sign of just how much the entire ecosystem has been co-opted.

It pisses me off. W3PN was supposed to be an anarchist, cypherpunk movement, not full of democrats with MacBooks calling themselves "neo-cypherpunkers"

I really like @bitsocialnet. It seems to have a robust P2P architecture and looks very promising. However, I'm skeptical of its community-centric approach. I don't want my social media posts subject to the whims of community admins...

On Nostr, notes are distributed across many relays, so there is redundancy (and I can even set up my own to back up my notes there). idk, have mixed feelings about bitsocial. Maybe I'm wrong?

Nostr is full of truly special people For example, Weev, who thinks that cannabis is one of the most dangerous drugs en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weev

He’s a troll, and I disagree with almost everything he says, but I’m glad he’s free to say it there.

Don't get me wrong. I love to be right. But over the years I've grown to appreciate being wrong. Being wrong with an open mind is how you learn and grow. Same goes for changing opinions. I used to think that it was important to stick to your opinions. Now I think that being able to change opinion on something and own up to it is the finest form of personal development.

The most effective way to destroy a rebellion is to turn it into an industry
I fear commercialized, licensed cannabis legalization might actually harm freedom in the long run. For decades, it exposed the absurdity of state power and inspired disobedience. Now resistance turning into a regulated industry that generates billions in taxes to sustain itself.

🌱 HAPPY LEGALIZATION DAY 🌱 It’s now been EIGHT years since federal legalization; a plant has not collapsed society, reefer madness never took hold, police focus on more important things, and we let adults choose how to live their lives.

Satoshi was not an idiot. This finding by @Anthropic that the P-256 seeds were timestamps does NOT mean the NSA are trustworthy. Nor should we should generate mathematical structures for use in cryptography behind closed doors rather than in the open. anthropic.com/research/ecdsa…

Chaos Communication Congress is an awesome concept, but after 40+ years, it feels increasingly out of touch with today's scale of unfreedom. I wish we had something similar, focused less on saving the current civilization and more on imagining and building a different one.
