Spent very little time on X last week, as I was away on a trip.
Checking back in this morning, and it seems like the world is on fire from things I forgot to care about last week.
Social media is part of "the problem™", people.

The house is loud and messy because of small kids, and then one day it's clean and quiet and you're sad, with almost nothing in between to enjoy.
You really have no option but to say "this is good" when it's loud and messy bc that's your only chance to enjoy it.
Dear everybody: let's avoid the what-about-isms. It's corrupt when democrats bribe with handouts. It's corrupt when republicans bribe with handouts.
Be honest.
This kind of garbage has to stop.
🚨Breaking News: President Trump has promised a $5,000 “dividend” to every adult U.S. citizen if Republicans win control of both the House and Senate in November
Me: Set output-style to ASD-STE100
Opus 5: Can't use licensed dict; engineering output shouldn't be modified anyway
Me: Simplifying technical output is the entire POINT
🧵
O: You're right, I over-hedged. Try setting `/output-style` to change this session
Me: I got an "unknown error" error when I typed the `/output-style` command
O: You're right, Anthropic moved this setting to the `/config` section

America is having a national debate over a $20 burrito.
And somehow half of Washington still doesn't understand the burrito isn't the point.
It's the $20 burrito. The $8 coffee.
The $2,500 apartment. The $900 car payment.
The insurance bill that looks like a second mortgage.
The starter home that requires two six-figure incomes.
People are watching the basic rewards of working hard slowly move out of reach.
And when they complain, millionaires in Washington tell them to cook at home.
People aren't asking the government to buy their burrito.
They're asking why everything in America suddenly feels priced for someone richer than them.

Top 3 dumbest excuses people make when defending mass surveillance and Flock cameras:
1) "You have no expectation of privacy in public."
Except long term tracking isn't just "being seen" - it's an imposed, automated dragnet and stalking. Courts recognize the "mosaic theory": individual public moments, when stitched together 24/7, reveal your doctor visits, political rallies, and entire daily life without your consent or a warrant. It's not the same as someone watching you pass by.
2) "Your phone spies on you already."
This is pure defeatism that ignores personal agency. You can buy a Faraday bag, De-Google your phone, no have one at all, or choose to leave it at home entirely - you have consumer choice. You can’t opt out, alter, or opt out of a state monitored network of automated license plate readers scanning every public road.
3) "If your kid was abducted, you’d want one."
When you resort to absurd emotional traps and logical fallacies (Appeal to Emotion, False Dilemma, Faulty Generalization), it's a confession you can't defend the tech on its merits. Police have solved crimes for generations without violating constitutional rights, and extreme edge cases don't justify permanent dragnet surveillance of the entire population.

Not to change the subject from burritos but when I was earning poverty wages in my 20s I used to go to Subway nearly every day and get a footlong Italian sub for 5 dollars. It was generally the only big meal I would eat in a day.
If I was hungry later at night, I could always swing by McDonald’s and grab a chicken sandwich for a dollar.
All of these people are screaming about “eating at home” but I basically never made meals at home in those days and I was able to get by. You used to be able to survive on low wages without making meals from scratch. If that’s not possible anymore then it’s a sign that our standard of living is declining. That’s a problem. You should care about that.
Anyway, I went to a Subway recently and that same sandwich was 13 dollars. McDonald’s, of course, doesn’t sell anything for a dollar anymore.

If your theological convictions are not actively making you more gracious, humble, and repentant than your beliefs are not being shaped by Jesus they’re motivated by a desire to be argumentatively “right.”
The pattern: consume as many tokens as possible.
Maybe not wrong— but def telling coming from the token merchant.
Anthropic and OpenAI are both telling engineers to write loops.
Not prompts.
Not agents.
Loops.
That is not a coincidence.
When the two most important AI labs on the planet independently converge on the same pattern — that is a signal worth paying attention to.
Most engineers are still thinking in terms of single calls.
Input → model → output.
The engineers winning in 2026 think in cycles.
Output becomes input. The model evaluates its own work. The loop runs until the result is right.
This is the complete breakdown of what loops are, why they matter, and how to build them ↓
Just a friendly warning. We don’t even make $200k per year in Congress despite working nearly 140 days. If we aren’t properly compensated, a lot of us will go to the private sector and you will be left with some real idiots in Congress.
"Hey, why'd you do that? The CLAUDE.md file said not to..."
#Claude: "You're right, I broke that rule..."
The "three laws" are going to be useless when AI winds up driving an actual robot.
