ngm being the one noticed it before sora did kind of made it particularly sweet. because he’s observant by nature, he’s an assassin after all. noticing the smallest movements is practically instinctive for him….except that instead of observing enemy or for his job, now he gets to notice and memorize the tiny, involuntary reflex or things the woman he loves does, including the way one eye of hers squeezes shut when he kisses her temple or cheek.
it happened one day when they’re at home, sora’s sitting on the couch, just doomscrolling her phone while ngm lounges beside her.
he glances at her then leans over to kiss her temple, sora’s eye immediately squeezing shut. ngm pulls back and looks at her, that’s where he decides to investigate.
“you always do that.”
sora just continues scrolling, not taking her eyes off her phone, “do what?”
ngm leans closer again, pointing vaguely at her cheek, “the thing with your eye.”
she finally looks at him “what thing?”
“when i kiss you here…” he taps his lips against her temple again and her eye squeezes shut.
absolutely delighted, he pulls back. “THERE! you did it again!”
sora stares at him in confusion. “DID WHAT?”
“that! your eye!”
“what about my eye?”
ngm’s grinning now. that stupid, insufferable grin.
“whenever i kiss your temple or cheek, your eye on that side automatically squeezes shut.”
“i do not.”
“you literally just did.”
“maybe i was just blinking???”
“that’s so cute.”
“shut up.”
“aw, are you embarrassed?”
“no.”
“want me to test it again?”
“NO.”
“just one more time.”
“YOICHI. I SAID NO.”
and naturally, he just kisses her temple again and she does that thing again with her eye, enough to make ngm loses it.
“SEE?”
“…I hate you.”
i don’t want to lose this. i don’t want my love for you to ever become something that belongs only to the past. i want to keep loving you, through every passing day, every season and every chapter, i want to stay by your side for as long as we have each other.
so please yoichi, give me a chance, give me the chance to love you for all the days that are still waiting for us, give me the chance to keep choosing you, day after day for as long as this heart of mine can beat.
i don’t know what the future holds for us but if i’m allowed to ask for one selfish thing from fate, let it be this; let me stay by your side, let me love you for as long as this life will allow me.
i might not talk about recent or future chapters for a while…honestly i dont even know for how long. it just hurts to see him in an unknown state with no one giving him first aid or trying to help him.
