“They're probably hoping I'll cancel the exam.” New laureate Michael Woodford was scheduled to be setting his economics students an exam today, when he was woken by a call from Stockholm at 4:30am. Woodford spoke to us about his feelings for his prize – and praised his co-laureate Robert E. Hall. Listen to his first reactions.

The UK stands with the International Criminal Court and we stand united with our partners in strongly disagreeing with sanctions imposed on the Court. The ICC must be permitted to continue its critical work holding perpetrators of the most horrific international crimes to account.

Benny McCarthy should be sacked for shouting!! Even if the odds are stacked against us due to the rot in our football management and the meager investments we have made on youth development pipeline or in our national team, the reason underdogs have caused upsets in major tournaments is because someone believed in them and inspired them despite the odds. We need to get some basics right - pay the team and officials , resource the team’s operations and have an inspirational coach. If he cannot stand with the team , he should leave.

“I have a country to run and a region to take care of,” says Prime Minister of Barbados @miaamormottley, after being asked why she chose not to be a candidate for UN secretary-general. Mottley cites her obligations to her home country and region, and notes that she’s “not sure that the world wants somebody whose tongue is as heavy as mine.” Watch her conversation at CFR with former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations @LindaT_G: cfr.org/event/a-conversation…

Africa still has no permanent seat on the Security Council. A 21st century Security Council without permanent African representation is unjust & indefensible. We must reform the Council so that it reflects today’s world with the legitimacy and effectiveness that today’s challenges demand.

Remembering Fr. Kaiser in the pages of history. Today’s Daily Nation carries an obituary commemorating the life and witness of Rev. Fr. John Anthony Kaiser (MHM) on the 26th anniversary of his death. His story belongs not only to the Church. It is part of Kenya’s wider story of the struggle for justice, human rights, dignity and truth. We remember. We reflect. We recommit. #RememberingKaiser

Rest in peace my friend and senior Rev. Phillip Owuor. It has been an honor serving with him at the All Saints Cathedral and getting to know his lovely family. A dependable chap.
On Sunday morning I received an early call. I’d woken up fifteen minutes earlier, about to begin my morning exercise ritual, my sacred hour, no phones until I am done. But when the phone lit up and I saw my niece’s name, someone I had not spoken to in a long while, I just knew.
