deleting a feature flag can take more explaining that adding it
if you open checkout page to fix a bug and find 2 versions of it. new one shipped months ago, but the "temporary" feature flag is still there
before fixing anything, you have to find out whether anyone still uses old checkout and whether your change needs to go into both
turning a rollout flag on for everyone leaves both code paths in place. a "remove later" comment still depends on someone remembering it, so that doesn't help directly
when you add a temporary rollout flag, do this instead

A feature flag is not just a boolean. It creates another execution path your system may need to test, observe and support.
Treat every temporary flag like temporary code:
• Assign an owner
• Default to the safest state
• Define the metric that triggers rollback
• Set an expiry date
• Remove the flag and dead branch after rollout
Track flag age in CI and alert on expired flags.
Feature flags reduce release risk. Unmanaged flags turn that risk into technical debt.
