Interesting. I thought Act and National held reserve bank independence to be sacred. Are you saying that it was and then it wasn't and now it is?
Alasdair Thompson@ajthompson13Oct 19Replying to @concisecomment
Yes . At the Govt’s behest to don’t up large subsiding Covid licked out workers .

Now that’s what you call a packed hall.
Over 1000 people at James Hay Theatre in Christchurch today…both levels overflowing, standing in the back and foyer with no seats left.
The momentum is building…
Only a week left until early voting starts…
Remember to Party Vote NZFirst and let’s put New Zealanders First!
Te Pāti Māori’s Oriini Kaipara rocking up to a Mongrel Mob pad, smiling for photos with patched members, and promising to “restore mana” to the gang is a direct middle finger to every victim of their violence, meth dealing, bashings, and family abuse.
While @Maori_Party & the @NZGreens play whānau solidarity and pretend a patch doesn’t erase the harm, the real victims - women terrorised, kids raised in that culture, communities flooded with drugs - get erased.
No accountability, no condemnation of the crimes that earned those patches. Just prioritising the perpetrators.
Clear as day where their loyalties sit!

I think you'll find the Reserve Bank did most of the "money printing ". Also that the deficit financing during covid was supported by national to keep kiwi businesses open in a pandemic.
Replying to @concisecomment
Yes. The bubble exploded when Labour printed money and borrowed it and spent it & then it burst 2022 and is still deflating in 2026.
Will the Left, I’d elected set it off again with big spending ?
We can hope Alasdair. The last thing we need is another unproductive property bubble. I'd like to think my grandkids would be able to afford to buy a home without going to Aussie.
I guess it's just "cis white men" that marama is blames for violent crime? Racism much?
🚨🚨EXCLUSIVE
The Greens have been fully exposed for the hypocrites they are. Is this their Meteria Turei moment?
They wouldn't stand with Destiny Church members because of really "violent" racist dialogue, but they will do thumbs up with perpetrators of sexual & other forms of violence, intimidation and criminal activity (including drugs) because they're "engaging" and "extending services" to gangs.
🙄

TRANSCRIPT:
"RNZ: What would you say to a, someone who's, has themselves been a victim of sexual violence by the Mongrel Mob or has someone close to them who has been, who sees- Yeah ... on their reel on Instagram a, a photo of one of your MPs posing thumbs up with the Mongrel Mob?
Marama: I want to acknowledge to any of those people and any of those victims of violence, that should never have happened. They deserve justice and accountability, especially from the person who caused that harm. And we are never clear, um, in a broad sense of exactly what individual people have done when we engage with them across the, across the country, whether we're in the Koru Lounge or in community. We cannot tell individually, uh, what person has done what in their lives and in their backgrounds. But when we are a part of community events, it's about supporting the community-led initiatives and definitely not about endorsing violence or crime, which the Greens have actually got a history of supporting the very prevention work and funding it, as opposed to this government which have cut the funding.
RNZ: Do you take the same attitude to other groups? I mean, would you have your MPs posing at a Destiny rally, at a Destiny, um, m- meeting with a thumbs up just because you want to engage with the community?
Marama: Uh, we've n- we know that Destiny Church has put out really violently, um, for racist, um, dialogue.
RNZ: Yeah- but the Mongrel Mob's pretty good at violence, too, aye?
Marama: Yeah, and we certainly do not endorse that, and it is the Greens who have funneled-
RNZ: But, but you were endorsing it with your thumbs up at that patch, um, w- with those patch members.
Marama: They were endorsing the community day and extending services to all communities deserving whanau because there's, there's whanau there, children, partners, wives."

A little taste of supermarket profits versus the banks in NZ.
The four big banks’ latest annual after-tax profits totalled $6.6 billion ( all Aussie). Woolworths NZ made $32 million on $8.49 billion in revenue.
That’s a 0.38% net profit margin. Not even half of one percent. Just 38 cents for every $100 in sales.
But sure let’s go after the supermarkets. And while we’re at it let’s go after the independent NZ-owned operators too. Makes perfect sense @NZNationalParty @NZGreens @nzlabour
👏 👏 👏
And even with such a low dollar we still can't get a current account surplus. Must be those dividends pouring out to foreign investors.
Record high fuel prices are in part due to our near record low NZD @ReserveBankofNZ
And Australian 4.6% Cash Rate rise in November to 4.85% and another US Fed rise to 4.25% will drive the low NZD even lower
Perhaps the media should be asking that question of party leaders: eg " what suite of policies do you have to raise productivity over the long term?" @rnz_news @Breakfaston1
NZ’s low & falling productivity is & has cut our real incomes

You're assuming that we have competitive cost based pricing now. In a cosy duopoly retail prices don't always reflect costs. The commerce commission needs resources and powers to promote more competition.

Smart of Opportunity to set out relatively low-key, achievable bottom lines. Minor parties' biggest targets are seldom going to fly, so voters want to see what they might actually get.

It's for those with $10million net assets, so most kiwis won't pay wealth tax.
Greens @_chloeswarbrick on 16% is determined to be the next Finance Minister in a Green, Labour, Te Pati Maori, Opportunities coalition if it’s elected?
Her bottom line is an annual Wealth Tax that she claims 64% of kiwis want
That means allowing you wealth annually 4 taxing
We could also look at increasing productivity. Reduce immigration to slow demand on infrastructure, use tax reform to shift resources away from housing and into new kiwi businesses and invest long term in skills apprenticeships and education for the workforce.

We had a boost over last year thanks to mortgage costs coming down; this increased disposable income of spenders. Global prices of meat and dairy went up, boosting export growth. Govt deficits ran hot. All stimulatory. But, picture over last two years = grim. Outlook poor.
New Zealand’s economy has grown more in the past year than the UK, Canada, the US, the EU, Australia and Japan.
National's economic plan is working. We just have to stick to it.
A stronger economy means more jobs, rising wages, no new taxes and the confidence that if you work hard you can get ahead.
New Zealand's nationwide median house price has grown by over 300%—since 2000. So still some correction to occur.
Replying to @concisecomment @PronouncedHare
The property market hasn't gone up in value since 2017 or so if you adjust for inflation, and down 30% since 2022. Meanwhile the stock market has doubled in 4 years. Its a dead investment. Nobody wants to invest in it right now. No incentives needed.
New Zealand house prices have roughly quadrupled since 2000, rising from a national median of about $170,000 to around $800,000–$900,000. [1. So a bit more of a market correction to come yet.
Good to see help for first home buyers. rnz.co.nz/news/politics/1269…
Fuel, electricity and rates are the big 3 culprits apparently. The OCR is a blunt instrument if we're actually dealing with cost push inflation.
Replying to @gerrydavis123 @ReserveBankofNZ
Only in part is it fuel which the RBNZ at the beginning ‘looked through’
Even 2.75 % is very low and still stimulatory
