🔴 European Prize shortlist highlights car-park-to-green-space conversions
The European Prize for Urban Public Space announced five finalists on Wednesday converting automotive infrastructure into climate-resilient public areas. Leopold Banchini's Round About Baths in Logroño, Spain, transformed a concrete roundabout island into a shallow pool and steam room using timber and repurposed cast-iron pots—though the structure stood only one week during an architecture festival.
"We have given up so much public space to cars, and if you live in a city with kids you live in constant fear that they will be hit by a passing vehicle," Banchini said.
