We had a security breach last night related to a large scale distillation attack that impacted 1.4% of OpenCode Console users
We have notified them all this morning via email. If you did not get an email you were not impacted, it was a subset of users who had external providers linked
The incident is ongoing so we cannot share more details at this point but we are working with Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google to remediate

Tropical Storm Watch upgraded to a Tropical Storm Warning for areas south of the US/Mexico border. San Diego County will likely be upgraded to a warning later today or tonight.
Tropical storm conditions are likely late Saturday night & Sunday across much of Southern California, with flooding the main threat, both saltwater and freshwater.
Near the coast, we're dealing with high surf combined with high tide, on top of a minor surge from Rachel, and an arriving Kelvin wave, pushing tides to 7+ feet, well above average.
Never drive through areas of flooding or rushing water. It just takes 6" of water to sweep you off your feet and 12" to sweep away a vehicle. South to southeast winds of 15-30 mph are also likely in bands of showers and embedded storms, with gusts near 50 mph possible on Sunday.
Forecast rainfall amounts remain fairly unchanged, with 1-2 inches fairly common, and some locations receiving upwards of 2-3", especially mountains and southern deserts.
Enjoy the rain and stay safe out there!

The attack on open-weight AI risks repeating the worst of the internet era: start with “safety,” end with a handful of companies controlling the infrastructure everyone else depends on.
Reid Hoffman calls open models dangerous. But if only a few firms control the most powerful AI, they also control who gets access, who gets a say, what uses are allowed, and who gets to build the next generation of products.
We’ve seen this movie before.

Rumors are spreading like a wildfire that Google DeepMind has reached RSI.
Lyra is part of the reliable and huge leaker community.
But Id say its more than just rumors:
Google says Demis Hassabis will focus his “full attention” on shaping AGI. Reuters reports in August Sergey Brin is directing resources toward RSI, while DeepMind’s strategy chief calls it key to the AI investment thesis.

If they truly believe the risk is that high, and I think they do, then we need 100x more research and understanding of it. That requires them to openly share their models, datasets, training code, and agent traces.

Exciting day for NVIDIA and @huggingface.
Open models strengthen safety and cybersecurity, accelerate innovation and diffusion, and enable sovereignty. They allow every developer, startup, university, industry and country to build with, customize and benefit from AI.
Thank you @ClementDelangue for coming to me.
NVIDIA is going to be a great home for Hugging Face, its community and the future of open models. 🤗

$NVDA SIGNS $6B POOLSIDE DEAL FOR U.S. OPEN-WEIGHT AI
Nvidia will pay $6B to license Poolside’s AI technology and invest another $1B in the startup at a $12B pre-money valuation.
More than 100 Poolside employees are expected to join NVIDIA and work on Nemotron, its open-weight AI model family.
The goal is to build a U.S.-based open AI ecosystem capable of competing with Chinese models such as DeepSeek and Kimi, while also offering a lower-cost, customizable alternative to closed models from OpenAI and Anthropic.
NVIDIA is betting Nemotron can rival leading frontier models within the next year.

A solar eclipse will be visible in much of the Northern Hemisphere today!
A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes in front of the Sun. Those in the path of totality will see something like the left photo; others may see a partial solar eclipse like the right photo.

An hour of agentic computer use may now be cheaper than an hour of human labor:
Computer-use agent: $6-8
Offshore outsourced talent: ~$10
US talent: $30-45
"The math only gets better - inference keeps getting cheaper, and open-source models are getting good enough for a growing share of these workflows."
