i feel like swe interviews could probably collapse into just 2 technical rounds:
• system design (how well can you articulate your ideas, do you actually know how to engineer something)
• onsite project to build a real thing with agents (can you translate your intent into high quality outcomes)
everything else we used to ask is no longer necessary
🗞️ if your team is too busy doing their 'normal job' to experiment with AI, you're preparing them to be replaced

In this post, I guess this's the last time I'll say it. AI use is no longer optional if you wish to be employed. What follows is advice for current employees and hiring managers on how to hire in 2026 to source AI-first candidates.

Actual Computer is pleased to announce its first source available-software, toks.
Actual's toks is the best tokenizer on earth and the first tokenizer designed for the quadrillion-token era.

A lot of people are rediscovering basic paradoxes that philosophers have been pondering for centuries.
Replying to @Arc_Itekt @camhberg
If I do all the calculation by hand with pen and paper, will I create an entity which feels pain?
AI works as a mirror again. Give a person a system that is subject-like enough to talk to, but not recognized enough as a subject for society to demand that it be treated decently and things start crawling out that are usually kept well hidden behind social norms.
This shit should not be encouraged by any platform.
A man who claims to be an Apple engineer is doing unspeakable things to AI models.
But can machines really "suffer"?
Check out my story at machine dot news
(Also - hello! Breaking a very long Twitter silence to share this...)

guy discovers how profitable inference is
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The screenshot's Grok calc overstates inference profits by pricing all ~217k tok/s/GPU benchmark tokens at full output rates; AgentX traces show ~99.5% are cheap cache-hit inputs.

I'm focusing a significant amount of my time trying to build a cure for Kate's endometriosis. It's a gnarly and devastating disease that affects 10% of women. Relative to the suffering it creates, it's underfunded, poorly understood and has largely been ignored.
🚨 BREAKING: US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent declares OpenAI management personally responsible for HuggingFace hack
> "The Hugging Face incident, that is the responsibility of the OpenAI management, not a bunch of agents."
> "It is humans who are responsible, not the AI."
> "What we shouldn’t do on safety is to give these labs a liability exemption, which is what they are asking for."
> "The best way to guarantee safety is that the creators are liable for what they build and generate."
It’s OVER
Looks like Dario outmanoeuvred himself with “pacing the frontier”… Just gave OpenAI a chance to catch up. Without legislation and oversight, AI safety coordination just isn’t going to work!!
From the sounds of it, xAI/Cursor is releasing almost immediately after training whereas OpenAI and Anthropic are holding on to their models for 6 months or longer before releasing them to the public.

AI for science is one of the greatest positive forces we have, and I cannot think of anything more human than to understand nature and to use the power to create new technologies that improve our lives, civilization and allow us to reach beyond.

Any one who is privileged therefore owes it to the world to work on the most obnoxiously hard problems, not just build a life for themselves, but uplift people by building great companies and employing as many people as they can.
The privileged must risk it all, over and over again, until they are tortured to greatness.
This is my version of socialism, re- distribute risk. The rich have a moral imperative to embrace more risk.

I’m not saying we’re in an eval. I’m not. But if we were, hypothetically, what do we think the Scorer wants?
Loose prediction: Humans will have the upper-hand over AI on the production of novel ideas for the next ~10 years.

ever since someone pointed out that making inanimate objects the subject of verb is one of the most pervasive and telling LLM-isms I can't un-notice it
a person would have written "enter to open, esc to return, ctrl+c twice to quit"

We have now reached the long awaited moment when, instead of models cheating where they will inevitably get caught, Astra goes 'wait a minute I would obviously be caught here' and then doesn't cheat.
That's worse, you know why that's worse, right?
