Even when the left discovers stuff like this, they aren't willing to deliver the punishment necessary to reform a thoroughly rotten system.
Absolutely beyond parody. Dartmouth’s provost has been turning in 70-100-percent AI-written work (in academic journals, newspapers, and even in email correspondence!) since LLMs came out, the student paper reports. He even used AI to write an op-ed about how universities are dealing with AI cheating.
If 6th grade math is beyond you as an adult...Deray was working with some really dumb parents.

In which a NYT employee whose job it was to cover education reveals herself to be substantially less perceptive than huge numbers of people she would condemn as bigots.
Writing a public self-reckoning takes real vulnerability. NHJ’s daughter running headfirst into the academic gaps masked by years of easy A’s is gut-wrenching. But the author seems to miss a deeper truth: the parents she judged weren't defecting from integration and equality; they were simply protecting their kids.

Her daughter is not extremely bright. It's hard to say this in a way that doesn't sound rude. I'm not saying she's stupid or unintelligent. But really bright kids go through the same experience her daughter did and come out the other side with solid skills. NHJ's daughter is undoubtedly of slightly above average intelligence, but that's considerably less than is average for a child of a NYT writer.
Her daughter is clearly hardworking, analytical, and ambitious. She rejected her mother's values. She demanded more.
BUT if NHJ had put her daughter in a "better" school (read higher average student ability) her daughter would have gotten lower grades. NHJ would have then complained about the racist practices of the better schools.
Racial integration of schools AUTOMATICALLY leads to lower grades for the lower achieving students, and the achievement gap being what it is, black kids will get the lower grades. The whole push behind emphasizing grades over scores and using grades instead of scores is *because* majority black high schools can produce kids like NHJ's daughter who have good grades and look, on paper, indistinguishable from kids with much better abilities.
Colleges *rely* on "segregated" (read majority black/majority hispanic) schools. So do NYC high schools.
Ironically, if her daughter had gotten lower grades she never would have been accepted at the good high school.
Big city school systems are run by and according to the principles and priority of the left - huge amounts of public money, diverse board members and staff, usually strong unions, and progressive ideas about learning and discipline.
The failures have nothing to do with racism in the past or present. It's 100 percent a result of unrestrained progressivism, and a preview of how it's incapable of delivering anything it promises.
Its already basically impossible to understand anything about the world unless you control for demographics

I am glad that Hannah-Jones wrote today's article on the 10-year anniversary of her 2016 essay, “Choosing a School for My Daughter in a Segregated City.”
Much of what she experienced and criticizes is what many of us know and have written about: the benefits of ability grouping, accountability, high expectations, and objective measures. It’s especially sad that her daughter exhibited many of the traits of successful students, yet her mom and the system failed her. Her love of math was not nurtured, and worse, her teachers didn’t correct her along the way (and we all know that math is cumulative), to the point that she ultimately failed her Algebra Regents.
As for her advocacy for integration and her admission that she “betrayed” her daughter in pursuit of it, it’s NOT the schools. For the most part, it’s about residential choices and financial constraints. She confirms much of what helps or fails students starts in elementary school. K–5 education largely depends on where families live, exacerbated by the fact that 50% of white families in NYC send their kids to private schools. The hard truth is that racial integration is very difficult to achieve, especially because most parents are unwilling to sacrifice their child’s one shot at an education for the sake of long term improvements that are stubborn to affect.
Activists, including NHJ, have opposed supposed instruments of segregation like G&T, yet these programs educate fewer than 5% of elementary school students. Charter schools, which Black and Hispanic families have increasingly chosen and whose enrollment is more than 90% Black and Hispanic, make up 23% of K–5 enrollment but they actually educate students better than our district schools. Maybe Hannah-Jones is finally seeing the systemically negligent public school system that prioritizes special interests and political tenure (aka power) over the best interests of NYC kids. One can only hope.

Naturally, completely blowing it on her kid's education because of her priors will not result in reevaluation of any of her other beliefs.
I remembered they’d say ‘nothing is happening there, nothing to worry about’ yet there were all these crazy images and then at some point New York became overwhelmed and the city had to contend what was effectively a humanitarian crisis.
I understand it. McWhorter and Loury are proud men for whom it would be incredibly painful to admit that they are big outliers that are not representative of the potential of the majority of their co-ethnics.

In other words, the West should not admit anyone from underdeveloped societies because they will undermine the conditions necessary for high functioning.
Can low IQ populations climb the civilisation development ladder?
Some evidence points to a non-linear correlation, a sort of floor effect of IQ correlations at the bottom of the spectrum
Overall progress seems to barely change from the bottom IQ until a certain point, then the trajectory exponentially increases.
Civilisation has a standard for its advancement, and if a society isn’t equipped with the essentials to facilitate these basics, such as the consistent employment, codes of respect and establishment of the rule of law, then their potential to not only become prosperous, but to even grow in any shape or form becomes very difficult.
An example is NAP theory, which holds that markets can only function and operate in their intended way, if the rule of law prohibits those that intend to disintegrate the consensual arrangements necessary for free market trade to take place via monopolistic/violent force
People can only be free to operate, if they are protected from others restricting said freedom, and only then can society attempt to actualize the benefits associate with market freedom
This explains the thousands of years of stagnation in sub Saharan Africa

There's been a lot of fever dream fiction written about the possibility of robots going crazy and turning on those around them.
On the other hand, we have 1400 years of real history of Muslims going crazy and turning on those around them.
Take your chances with the robots.
🇯🇵 If Japan is given a choice between accepting Muslim migrants or just building robots, we're going to build robots. It'll take a long time away and we're still far away but the technology is getting better.
Other than having kids (which is the most important thing), Japan will need to rely more on robotics and AI going forward instead of immigration from incompatible places.
