I think so,” he said. “But put it up for a vote in Congress and let the American people see how their member of Congress would vote on that.” The comments follow claims from Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin and border czar Tom Homan that Omar, a naturalized citizen who came to the U.S. as a Somali refugee, married her brother, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, to help him enter the country, and that a federal investigation is examining whether she obtained citizenship through fraud. Omar became a naturalized citizen in 2000 at age 17. Omar has repeatedly denied the allegations, which have circulated since at least 2016.
