I finally watched Ramayana to ensure that our criticism is informed by firsthand observation rather than hearsay. Having watched the film, here are our concerns: 1. Ravana and his entire clan are portrayed as a persecuted, helpless people. They are presented almost as a community of poor souls who have been systematically mistreated by the Devtas. This portrayal invites sympathy for Ravana rather than allowing the audience to understand the moral and philosophical dimensions of his character. 2. This is less Ramayana and more Ravanyana. Ravana has undeniably been glorified. One need only look at the number of children who, after watching the film, have begun praising Ravana to understand the impression it leaves. 3. Ravana is portrayed as an Asura, whereas he is traditionally identified as a Rakshasa. There is a distinction between Rakshasas and Asuras in Hindu tradition. Conflating the two is not a trivial detail, particularly in a cinematic adaptation of an epic as culturally significant as the Ramayana. 4. Sita Ji is portrayed more like a contemporary, modern-day woman than the traditional divine and dignified persona associated with her. That said, this is something we can perhaps accommodate under the creative liberties of cinematic interpretation. 5. Sita Ji addresses Shri Ram by his name. Traditionally, Sita Ji is understood to have addressed Shri Ram with reverential expressions such as Swami or Aryaputra. Having her casually address him by his name feels inconsistent with the traditional portrayal of their relationship. Creative liberty is certainly permissible. However, when adapting an epic that carries immense civilisational, spiritual and cultural significance, creative interpretation should not come at the expense of its underlying ethos, characters and traditional narrative. 6. Sita Ji is shown suggesting that Lakshman was wrong in cutting off Shurpanakha’s nose. This is particularly concerning because such a statement is not found in the Valmiki Ramayana. The scene appears to introduce a moral interpretation that casts Shri Ram and Lakshman in an unfavourable light, while portraying Shurpanakha as an innocent woman whose only intention was to marry Shri Ram. This fundamentally changes the audience’s perception of the episode and the characters involved. There is a difference between exercising creative liberty and introducing a narrative that departs from the source text in a way that alters the moral framing of the original epic. - Anyone defending this film on the grounds that at least Bollywood made an attempt to bring our story, the Ramayana, to the big screen is either profoundly ignorant of the epic’s cultural and spiritual significance or, one might suspect, has some vested interest in defending it. Yes, the film deserves credit for its impressive, Hollywood-calibre visual effects, production design and technical execution. There is no denying that. But spectacular VFX and lavish production budgets cannot serve as a licence to distort our Itihasa, misrepresent its revered characters or rewrite its foundational narrative. We are not opposed to creative liberty. We are opposed to creative liberty being used as an excuse to distort our civilisational heritage. The Ramayana deserves far more than spectacular visuals. It deserves authenticity, reverence and a profound understanding of the very tradition it seeks to portray.

There's a reason why Hanuman Ansh is rewarded so spectacularly and why an alleged Ramayana is getting battered so brutally.

#RamayanaMovie #RamayanaReview

Ramayana is in the news so Audrey is “loosely translating” with her lurid takes again… Valmiki never wrote "harem pet" or "furniture cover." Just as he never said Sita calls Rama a “misogynist pig.” Here's what the text says. On the living deer, Aranya Kanda 3.43.16:
antaḥpura-vibhūṣārtho mṛga eṣa bhaviṣyati "This deer will be an ornament of the inner palace." Not “harem.” Sita is talking about after the exile, when they're back in Ayodhya. The word is vibhūṣā, ornament. It's a marvel to bring home to Bharata and the queen mothers. It isn't a "pet," and it isn't a harem plaything. We also know that Rama never took another wife, let alone kept a harem. On the slain deer, 3.43.19: शष्पबृस्यां विनीतायामिच्छाम्यहमुपासितुम्
śaṣpa-bṛsyāṃ vinītāyām icchāmy aham upāsitum "I wish to sit on its golden skin, spread over a seat of tender grass." A bṛsī is an ascetic's grass seat. She's a forest-dweller in exile, picturing herself sitting beside Rama. That isn't upholstery or a "furniture cover." Rama even pictures the same scene himself a few verses later (3.43.34). So "harem pet" and "furniture cover" aren't translations. Each one picks the most lurid or trivial reading available so that Sita comes off as decadent and vain. The text doesn't support either. We've seen this before. In 2018 Truschke "loosely translated" Sita at the agnipariksha as calling Rama a "misogynist pig." Robert Goldman, the translator she cited, disowned it. She starts from a Sanskrit word, takes the most loaded English you can find, and presents it as scholarship. That's academic malpractice. And it’s a pattern.

Leave aside other arguments, did Alexander have India or South Asia in mind? Did Columbus want to find a route to India or South Asia? Why were the natives of America called Red Indians and not Red South Asians? Why did the British set up the East India company and not the South Asian company? Why was it British India and not British South Asia? East Indies and West Indies? Why is it called the Indian Ocean not the South Asian Ocean?
Sorry, but the term south Asian actually makes a lot more sense than Indian. India is a national construct, composed of dozens of ethnic groups and linguistic groups many of those groups stretch across Nepal, Pakistan Bangladesh, etc.

Yeah, their corrupt govt did this by creating protests against Adani on behalf of the Chinese. Many Kenyans instigated by social media misinformation did it too. So China's companies could get the projects in Kenya. And some Indians were cheering this saying "Adani was chucked out of Kenya, it's a bad company." What to say of these Indians? That's more concerning to me. We can only can ask them, next time no matter what politics you follow, please don't pull down Indian companies in their bids in foreign countries, at least. It affects all Indians and even that foreign country.

Indian RW started speaking against Trump because Trump started supporting Pakistan and spoke against Indian interests. Indian LW who hated Trump supported him when he was supporting Pakistan. Conclusion: Indian RW will hate anyone who hates India while Indian LW will love anyone who hates India.

Caught cheating on an IIT exam with ChatGPT, but the ecosystem immediately turns academic malpractice into a caste oppression narrative. It’s truly tragic, a system where enforcing basic rules gets professors booked. If invigilation becomes a crime, academic rigor is dead.

A sharp question raised by a Chhattisgarh High Court judge! Where Will General Category Candidates Go? If SC/ST/OBC candidates secure General Category seats purely on merit, why should they continue to claim reservation benefits in promotions? The judge puts the lawyer on the spot: If reserved-category candidates can claim both, what is left for General Category candidates? An important question that deserves an honest answer.

When Afghanistan became unsafe, India offered its cricket team a home ground. When Tibetans lost their homeland, India gave them a home in Dharamshala. When Parsis fled persecution in Persia, India welcomed them with open arms. Jewish communities found refuge and lived in India for centuries. That is Bharat. That is the Indian civilisation. A mother who opens her doors to the world. But how ironic that the same civilisation is now lectured on how Hindus should celebrate Diwali in their own country! India is home. Diwali is ours. Let Hindus celebrate Hindus dont need permission to burst firecrackers on Diwali FK OFF

I attended a Christian school through grades 1-12. Read the Bible and quoted “verse of the day” through morning assemblies. We sang hymns. And sang carols through Christmas season. I am a Hindu. And a devout Hindu, at that. Not once though, have I attempted to remove Christianity from Christmas. I’ve never tried to claim Christmas is a secular holiday. I can prattle off as many carols as I want but I’m still fully aware of the fact that Christmas is more important religiously for Christians. I just enjoy the joy of festivities. So when I see people trying to celebrate Diwali without acknowledging its religious roots, trying their hardest to secularize the day, that’s a slap in the face. Diwali is and will always be a Hindu festival. It’s the return of Lord Ram. Always has been. Always will be. Disrespect and dissolution should not and will not be tolerated. Join in, respectfully. Or not at all.
I find that Diwali in India is pretty analogous to Christmas in the US in several aspects: 1. It is the largest festival celebrated nationwide by people across faiths or those who practice no religion at all 2. While it does have an origin in one religion, a lot of the celebrations themselves are not religious in nature 3. Right wingers in both countries try to publicly emphasize the religious nature of it and create culture wars around it

Did you tell your ‘newly Sanghified’ uncle that you are absolutely illiterate when it comes to understanding international immigration protocols? That the concepts of passports, visas, border security and immigration control are clearly alien to you? And then did your ‘newly Sanghified’ uncle explain to you that this is precisely why his son *can* live in New Jersey, while a Bangladeshi who has sneaked across the border cannot in West Bengal?
Dinner table conversation with a newly Sanghified uncle. Uncle: Why should Bangaldeshis be allowed in West Bengal? Me: Same reason why your child is allowed in New Jersey. Total silence from uncle and end of argument. #NeverGiveUp

Remember Jai Sai Deepak argued in front of courts & judges as why bursting of firecrackers during Diwali is not a mere celebratory activity, it's a ritual back in 2015 He had go back & quote texts from Vedas, Puranas, argue for days to prove his point just so Hindus can celebrate Diwali in this only Hindu Nation we have Only then the judges agreed & didn't banned firecrackers during Diwali Use ur legal right to celebrate this Diwali, Burst crackers all u want !
