A new study by @marlijnterbekke @judithholler et al. shows that listeners can better anticipate when a current speaker will stop talking when they can see them, especially their torso, hands and arms, suggesting a beneficial role for hand gestures.

I’m presenting my poster in session B tonight @SNLmtg #SNL2022 (B19)! If you are also curious why activations in some parts of Transformer language models seem more similar to human brain activity than others, then I hope to see you there 😄

Our paper showing how scene context *impairs* perception of congruent objects is finally published (OA) in @PsychScience! Outline of mechanism in graphic, RTing 🧵 for preprint, paper: doi.org/10.1177/095679762110…. With @flodlan @MariusPeelen. @DondersInst @Radboud_Uni @NWO_SSH
Preprint time! Visual scene context should always *aid* the perception of objects within that scene, right? Wrong! @flodlan @MariusPeelen and I show when & why context *hinders* perception in two online behavioural studies. Highlights below 🧵👇 1/7

Just posted a new 🔥 preprint 🔥 online: 'The "Bayesian" brain, with a bit less Bayes'. Theoretical, some might say speculative stuff; comments very welcome! #openscience Thread here 👇 arxiv.org/abs/2111.09063 1/11

SO excited that this project is officially published 🥳 it was a long road for this paper, but I'm really proud of this #Lowlands collaboration with @lindadrijvers on multimodal (face, hands, speech) adaption of communicative signals to disruptive noise

New preprint alert! My paper with @ozyurek_a , @JudithHoller and @lindadrijvers is now up: Evidence for a Multimodal Lombard Effect: Speakers modulate not only speech but also gesture to overcome noise
