We stand with Data Scientist, Rebekah Jones, and all tech workers in Florida who choose to put ethics and the interest of the people first. We encourage you to look at her story. #CivicTech #PublicInterestTech theverge.com/2020/12/9/22166…

One day I'll write about the "tech savior complex" and why more VCs, Startups, and more Z isn't the solution for everything including fixing government. One day.

I ran a test in my dream last night and think this should work IRL. If someone attacks you with throwing knives or stars in a grocery store then you should charge at them with an empty grocery cart.

Disclaimer: I haven't tested this method against throwing axes. It's probably safe in a world with high resolution collision detection. Otherwise, they may be able to get a full backswing through the cart and then start hacking their way through it.

And finally, in case your mysteriously murderous grocery store assailant is more realistically armed with say a banana, please consult Monty Python. Their research seems thorough although I haven't had a chance to replicate it yet.
Congratulations and what a great use of funds! I look forward to the learnings and iterations! :)
A new part-time opportunity from @codeforphilly will pay 3 technical fellows a $1,500 stipend for 10 hours of work over 8 weeks. Here are the details: bit.ly/2Q2bdQZ

I've done this in a couple repos, but need a script to hit them all. Maybe I'll make one that uses the API to do it all at once...
I'm no expert, but I just renamed the main branch for my current project from "master" to "main". What I did: $ git branch -m master main $ git push origin main adjust github as below $ git push origin :master Then on other copies: $ git checkout main $ git branch -d master

I put most of my energy into documenting all the things it doesn't handle well because let's be honest, git itself is hacky.

I'm also very open to ditching this project and helping with others that are further along with the same goals, so please don't hesitate to mention any alternatives you know of (regardless of whether you've had a chance to check them out)!
Lots of open data and civic topics that may interest @code4nashville folks! I'll also be joining to gain more experience with virtual conferences (so we can do one among brigades!). :)
Pleased to share with you the final schedule for csv,conf,v5 happening 13th and 14th May, online. csvconf.com/speakers/ check out our brilliant speakers and talks!
If you are a technologist who benefits from the internet with a relatively well-paying job, please join me in donating some funds to help this independent security group through a transition: wired.com/story/shadowserver…

For issues related to scooters, starting today you can report them to Metro by calling 311 or using the @hubNashville app. In the app, enter the location, submit description/comment of problem, and even upload a picture. When submitted, the request will go to the @NashvillePW.
Scooters hit streets starting today. Here is link to all of regulations/requirements. Answers to two biggest questions so far: Scooters can't be operated on sidewalks unless outside of business area. Scooters can be parked on a sidewalk if not impeding it. nashville.gov/Metro-Clerk/Le…

Two things: * Too many Nashvillians lack housing even when there’s not a tornado. Sportsplex is an emergency shelter for _everyone_ tonight. * State law fails to protect tenants during natural disasters. Landlords can walk away. Displacement will be real.

We're also part of a national network advocating for human-centered design in government and digital services and open data / transparency policies.

For example, if your bill congress.gov/bill/116th-cong… passes, we'd be some of the people working hard to involve and inform the public and keep redistricting accessible as well as transparent. :)
