Earlier today, a loose Mylar balloon caused a power outage that affected 300 customers in Chicago, including Cook County Hospital’s Medical Examiner Building and the Chicago 311 Center, whose service has since been restored.
Loose balloons can travel farther than you think and can drift into power lines in seconds. There have been 153 power outages caused by Mylar balloons in northern Illinois this year.
Keeping balloons secured helps protect your neighbors and your community.
🎈Remember: Tie them tight! Keep your lights bright!
