“The Houston Arms Embargo is one of the few campaigns that has been able to sustain a galvanized, activated base. While this can be attributed in no small part to the diligent organizing of the campaign 🧵

if you truly understand what the function, at least at the level of libido, is of a post-colonial leader, “brought to you by the Obamas” isn’t that shocking
to be sure, brokering structural adjustment is something negroliberals and post-colonial politicians both do.

RIGHT NOW: Zohran Mamdani stands on the Israeli side of an October 7 vigil while Palestinian organizers and supporters of Palestinian liberation directly protest him.
Another politician at the vigil is Brad Lander, who increased NYC pension holdings in Elbit Systems, Israel’s largest weapons manufacturer, as their weapons were used to annihilate Palestinians at the height of the Gaza genocide.
Meanwhile, students across NYC are walking out of classrooms demanding an end to the city’s complicity in Israel’s genocide of Palestinians.
Mamdani campaigned on solidarity with Palestine. Now the movement is confronting him over the gap between that solidarity and his political decisions. This is not a hypothetical contradiction or a disagreement over rhetoric. It is a confrontation over where political power is being exercised, whose demands are being accommodated, and whose are being dismissed.
Solidarity is measured by what you do with power, not what you say to obtain it.

In putting stories from Gaza in conversation with stories from U.S. prisons, we hope to expand conversations around abolition in the U.S. beyond the prison to include the ways that poverty, race, and gender also cage bodies and communities. scalawagmagazine.org/2023/06…

The public's palpable distress around the "War on Terror" laid the groundwork for intensified cultural obsession with disaster preparedness, and the monster that emerged as the perfect symbol amid this fear and obsession was the pop culture zombie. scalawagmagazine.org/2026/09…

The suppression of pro-Palestine press alongside the decreased funding for media and progressive causes is especially clarifying given the scale of resources being dedicated to supporting the Zionist entity and, by extension, its genocide.

These folks have done a lot of important, essential work. This helps understand what Zionism is, what it isn’t, and how it functions within capitalism.
It did not begin on October 7th 2023, nor did it begin in 1948. The Zionist colonial project has a much longer history, as detailed forensically in Sabri Jiryis The Foundations of Zionism, published in English for the first time exactly one year ago today ebb-books.com/books/p/the-fo…
