It was a joy to celebrate alongside African New Yorkers whose cultures and heritage are woven into the fabric of our city.
Africa is alive in every corner of New York: in the Nigerian bakeries along Glenmore Avenue, the shops of Harlem’s Le Petit Sénégal and the Egyptian restaurants of Steinway.
This month, we honor the African immigrants who have made a home here without ever leaving home behind. Our city is better because of them.
