I watched this clip last night and read the comments underneath. Has the center of gravity moved so far that what Paul Henry is articulating here is fringe ambition? If the words were Times New Roman 12 pt on a white A4 would they still be ghastly? 🇳🇿

Following @FleurHassanN’s interviews for weeks gave me real insight into Israeli elections. Today’s attack on her vehicle was shocking. Last week, the President warned about severe police under-resourcing; will this force real action against criminality in Judea and Samaria? 🇮🇱

Watching the UK’s approach to Israel feels like watching policy frozen in time, where London insists on a two-state framework that the region itself has largely abandoned in practice. 🇬🇧 🇮🇱

The news of a politician being attacked with a vehicle in regional Victoria is shocking. I don’t know what the prognosis is for survival; various reports are painting a bleak picture. Read → smh.com.au/national/helen-ha… 🇦🇺

Trump’s late endorsement for Netanyahu adds a wild variable to Israel’s election. Pure proportional system with no local electorates, 38 parties on the ballot, a dozen viable. Complex coalition math will decide who governs. I’m following @eylonpodcast for party interviews. 🇮🇱 🇺🇸

It’s hard to be precise about the scale of unrest in France because descriptions vary depending on who is telling the story, but it’s plain, especially in Paris, that they are in a severe situation right now. The BBC is reporting 550,000 on the streets with 1,200 arrests. 🇫🇷

A major blaze has broken out in a residential building in my area. I am supporting a group of French tourists from the adjacent Airbnb who are displaced for the time being. 🇯🇵 🔥

A wrap on the UNESCO-listed Kawagoe Festival. 20°C out tonight, just cool enough to activate a cardie after eating. Returning to the capital now. Struggling to keep my eyes open. 🇯🇵 🏮

During the UNESCO-listed Kawagoe Festival, which began in 1648, 29 floats crafted in the 17th–19th centuries, each belonging to a merchant district, are pulled around the streets of Kawagoe. They pause, rotate, and perform at gatherings of neighboring merchant districts. 🇯🇵 🏮

Freshly baked potato with butter for my tea at the UNESCO-listed Kawagoe Festival. Tastes like autumn 🍂! I am not a festival/street food kind of person, but I think spuds are low risk, right? 🇯🇵 🏮 🥔 🧈

The floats that they wheel around the UNESCO-listed Kawagoe Festival are splendid. 🇯🇵 🏮

Despite being a bit ill and exhausted, I have gone for a wander to the UNESCO-listed Kawagoe Festival. I enjoyed this event last year, so I am happy to come back. The festival is huge, easily covering an area of about 2 km². 🇯🇵 🏮

It was apparent very quickly that Zachariah is a headline-driven commentator, not an operational spokesperson. 🇺🇸

Reminiscing about the Gisborne A&P Show 🎡 on back home today. 29 years since my last one! Photos make it look like a small fair now, but it felt massive as a kid. Weather looks terrible this year, but I still want a hotdog! Anyone there with photos/video to share? 🇳🇿 🎠

This is a police matter that must be reined in regardless of scale. Netanyahu spoke on this at the UN and President Herzog addressed it this week. It undermines Israel's standing and steals vital media bandwidth from urgent national threats. 🇮🇱

I've watched the Tesla Roadster event for a second time, as I really didn't grasp it the first time round. The proof-of-concept spectacle is separate from what is expected to be the production car from 2028, but I don't think that distinction was very clear. 🇺🇸

Today’s earthquake alert error degrades public trust and validates the cynics, but when was the last time we experienced an alarm activation like that? Does crying wolf permanently damage our emergency response? Type 1 errors are far better than type 2. 🇯🇵 🫨
Massive earthquake just occurred north of Japan. Alarms sounded on phones and in neighborhoods in Tokyo. No shaking felt in Tokyo at this time. Preliminary reading is Magnitude 9.9. Updates to follow. 🇯🇵 🫨 🚨

Me noticing it doesn’t make it new or a trend, but the news reports about various companies in Japan losing or leaking massive amounts of customer data are eye-watering. Today I read about a potential leak of 22.5 million customers’ data from a New Year card-making company. 🇯🇵

The Japan Times has a fuller explanation about the earthquake north of Japan a few hours ago. I can accept that these systems are automated and rapid to alert people, and I guess it is better to be safe than sorry. M9.9 is quite extreme! Read → japantimes.co.jp/news/2026/1… 🇯🇵 🫨
