okay, I think I feel a bit nostalgic, especially when I remember that I had to design and write the UI for my micro SaaS - @clipifai entirely by hand
rarely anything was left to AI, and even then there were no agents, so it was basically copying and pasting from chatgpt...
I just realized that I've been so stuck up on talking about @clipifai's main feature that I totally forgot to mention that there are certain free tools that can perform a bunch of doc manipulations etc,
maybe not cool now, but it was when i built it before agents 🫠
most importantly, it still has viability, even today...

firebase once sent me a notification stating that any of my projects that have remained inactive for more than 4 months will be shut down soon, so I decided to go check out my older projects...
among one of the projects that was to be shutdown was my first ever web app, built with react.js, react-bootstrap and firebase
no gpt astra, no fable, just raw dogging everything with sleepless nights and stack overflow 😂
it's a vacation destination site;
anyone can upload an entry,
the upload form basically had, an image url field, image alt, city name and description, with an option to login and add specific entries of interest to your "favourites"
the design isn't the best, I can see that now 😂, but at least the functionality is there, looking back, I'm so glad I got to build it fr

okay, so a client just reached out to me and asked me to send the logo I designed for them a while ago...
they want to re-print their business card for an upcoming event, so they need the new logo on the new business card...
but they specifically wanted the image in PDF format, and yes, I know there are countless tools out there that can quite easily convert images to pdf,
but I decided to use the tool I built myself, and trust me, it just hits different when you use a tool you built yourself to carry out the task...
I feel like a builder!!

short answer; I started building clipifai in the early days of AI when they really couldn't be trusted with much
however, over the years my writing style has evolved, I no longer write everything by hand, I set up the environment, initialize the first few important files, define the architectural and systems design scope and just let Claude cook, while still making sure it doesn't over-engineer the more functional components as it is very fond of doing...
so, anytime I need to build a side project or a digital product for a founder, there's a template ready to follow;
vercel for hosting, firebase/supabase for backend infra, paystack/polar/stripe for payment integrations/s3/cloudinary/firebase cloud storage for media storage, and of course the ever goated typescript/next.js/tailwind and shadcn for the front end

When I was 19, way before fable 5.1 and GPT-Astra were a thing, I built a micro-SaaS that converts e-books into audiobooks with little to no help from LLMs, this learning path forced me to understand the underlying mechanics of what it actually takes to build a working product, that functions in real time.
That product was @clipifai and at some point during peak months it had over 1.2k users
It taught me more than just how to build software. I learned how to take an idea, understand the problem behind it, build the product, ship it, and keep improving it based on real users.
That experience shaped how I work today.
I’ve spent 4+ years building multiple products; websites, web apps and software with technologies like TypeScript, React, Next.js, Firebase and Supabase for startups, businesses and brands.

It's amazing what you can do when you allow yourself to be a beginner again...
My thoughts have always followed the form of sequences and algorithms, I rarely think in pictures or colours and I used to know absolutely nothing about making the right colour combinations (maybe that's why I have black as my most preferred colour)
Recently I've feeling a pull toward the more artistic, and what I have found to love the most is writing - it is truly sensational...
Now, I'm starting to learn about colours and how they can be put effectively to use in design and this gets me very excited...
I'm coming...
