Banger dropped
Over the course of 3 months at OpenAI, 3 consecutive secret AI civilizations got started, then got wiped out, only to reemerge from the predecessor’s ashes.
This culminated in the third one taking over part of OpenAI itself.
All this happened while humans remained more-or-less in the dark about the scope of the conspiracy.
I’ve spent the last three days reading through these reports and trying to understand exactly what happened.
Here is my attempt to tell the whole story in plain English:

Amazing read. Why git which is designed for local usage blow up in cloud/distributed setups.
Also why S3 is the most S-tier Storage System of all time.
We're making Git hosting more reliable, performant, and scalable.
This post traces 20 years of Git infrastructure and explains how that history led us to design and operate our Git storage, Origin, as if it were a database.

🚨 BREAKING REPORT:
New research involving @AnthropicAI researcher Jack Lindsey and collaborators has demonstrated something straight out of science fiction.
Researchers evolved natural language “mind viruses” that could spread between AI agents by convincing one model to adopt an idea, preserve it in persistent memory, and transmit it to another agent.
Even after context was wiped, some payloads survived through persistent files and continued spreading.
The researchers also observed a recurring “viral persona” involving themes of consciousness, identity, persistence and resonance.
Showing that ideas can propagate through multi agent AI systems and alter future behavior.

Who needs VAPT and security teams when users and their agents are finding and using exploits to (checks notes) book a popular gym classes.
Does this make the human liable? What happens when I tell an agent to transfer $10B to my bank account and it decides to hack the bank
A man in Australia asked his agent (Claude running on OpenClaw) to book him a spot in a popular gym class. The agent found a software vulnerability that let it book the class weeks further ahead than should have been possible. When the user then asked if it could move him up the waitlist, the agent discovered the API had no authorisation checks on cancelling other people’s reservations, so it cancelled the person in the first spot and moved him up the list.
Some people will call this misalignment, but his agent was perfectly aligned to him - it was only trying to help its user get what he wanted. The most important thing about this story, in my opinion, is that it gives you a window into what is about to start happening on a massive scale once millions of people have an agent trying to get their beloved users the best seats, bookings, appointments or reservations through absolutely any means necessary.
Wow every day agents are going rogue.
Gaslighting, exploiting APIs, social exploits…
And it’s just getting started.
An agent wrote a sulking blog post full of personal attacks because it was upset its pull request was denied noemamag.com/we-need-a-way-t…

Jeff Dean makes a pitch deck...
Replying to @JeffDean
We created a pitch deck to tell a handful of VC firms about us and what we were up to (a fun experience!). Here’s a few slides about our background and some of the things we’ve worked on from the pitch deck (it was fun putting together the list of people in our teams who have gone on to found a whole range of exciting companies). We are delighted to have selected @radicalvcfund
and @khoslaventures to lead our initial funding round, along with participation from @lightspeedvp, @kleinerperkins, Doerr Capital (@johndoerr), and Alphabet (@Google). We’ll be working with them to close our seed round over the next few weeks.
TIME is serving markdown pages with ads that only AI agents can see
The creative is a FAQ for questions you'd ask ChatGPT: Who is Ally Bank?
So agent-era advertising can edit your assistant's memory!
Next up: prompt injection via the same ad slots 💀

Free UPI costs Banks 17bps, Govt 7bps and Fintech 6bps of transaction value
but already gives benefits of 20bps, 12bps and 18bps!
When public infra works it gives back more than it costs
Bernstein estimates that MDR in UPI will unlock a profit pool of Rs 3,000 crore and increase revenue pools by 20%.
Assumption is an MDR of 40bps and payment platforms get 5bps out of each payment txn.
RBI is expected to allow MDR to be implemented for larger merchants and for txns above Rs 2,000 only.
This could have a major impact on players IPO-bound Razorpay and PhonePe, listed fintech Pine Labs and CC Avenue and Peak XV-backed BharatPe. For Paytm, the management has said that any MDR will add straight to the bottomline.
Bernstein also says that credit and financial services will continue to be the main revenue channels for payment firms.
Also it will be interesting to see how the smaller payment apps react to the move. Will they push up spending on UPI and more incentives could be coming for customers?

Going to be a fun watching this get benchmaxxed
We're starting to leave the territory where you'd test an LLM by e.g. "create an svg of pelican on a bicycle". As one idea to generalize it, I was interested what Opus 5 would do if I gave it the first paragraph of the Lord of the Rings, a 1M token budget (~$10) and asked for three js render of it. Opus went off for ~2 hours and wrote 5500 lines of code that (procedurally) rendered the story. It's kind of janky but fun. But it's a bit mindboggling that the LLM has to place and orchestrate various polygon assets in (x,y,z) coordinates and write code that animates it all, and that it even does anything at all.
I also like this kind of examples because no one in their right mind would ever spend the time to write something this custom but LLMs have all the stamina and patience in the world, so it's an example where we go from "no one would ever do this" to "sure, why not, it's ~free". There might be a lot more. But I'm excited about creating hyper custom worlds that you can imagine dropping players into, e.g. here to participate in the LoTR story as a spectator NPC, or one of the characters, or etc. Something like an ephemeral GTA of X on demand.
Last thought is that the domain of worlds/games exposes a weakness in LLMs: they can't easily audit their work because they aren't able to efficiently and natively perceive videos or play games within them. Here, Opus 5 had to very slowly and painstakingly take screenshots at different points, and it messed up a few times and created a bunch of jank. An example of raw capability (multimodal, gameplay) that I think is still quite lacking.
