agree to this (have ~80K+ subscribers). newsletters need to evolve into something more meaningful - taking a shot at it from next week.
a big take I've been noodling on and I’m ready to call:
the newsletter is dead
@every's core business is a newsletter with 120k+ subscribers so I don't say this lightly.
persistent agents mean i dont look at my inbox
with dots (GrokBots, Muse, etc) I almost never look at my inbox. if I do it's for a specific thing I need to reply to.
i think in a year I'll be doing all of my email this way - fully filtered by my dot / something like it.
this is not new: it's a continuation of the trend of having a “newsletter” folder in Gmail, but 10x more filtered.
what it means
It doesn’t mean people won't read newsletters, but it does mean that getting a person’s email is no longer the guarantee that you have a relationship with them that it used to.
luckily, with persistent agents (and AI coding more generally) there is an entirely new playing field to build relationships with readers. instead of fighting to get an email address, publishers and creators will need to make sure we're installed in our reader's agent harness of choice, so that they get directly notified when we do something new.
we're already starting to experiment with this @every with our MCP and the frontier alerts we send users of our slack agent (every.to/agent)
it's also more affordable than ever for publishers and creators to build their own platform ecosystem: you can have your own website, app etc. and you can use AI to publish 100x more high-quality stuff to your community—so we may see a world where many creators themselves are running their own little empires that have their own apps, feeds etc.
to be clear: It'll take a while before this actually happens, but the idea of getting someone's email creating a direct relationship with them is over.
here's a set of predictions I made 3 years ago about AI and media that panned out pretty well: every.to/chain-of-thought/we…

I finally watched that viral America’s Got Talent performance by the 16-year-old Thai girl, and holy shit. What was THAT?
The way she screams, the raw power in her voice, the sheer force of emotion behind every note. It doesn’t just hit your ears. It hits somewhere deep in your chest and makes your brain short-circuit.
It’s not just singing. It’s something wild, something painfully real, something you can’t explain but feel in every bone of your body.
THIS is why music is incredible.
curious: are students are compensated for this?
Oh wow! Apparently this is Scaler AI labs:

Charge students for "learning" and sell their problem-solving work to AI companies for training data.
Attention is all you need - i think about this in between my claude / codex sessions and ..i believe this is probably the most ‘distractable’ time. you are in between a space where you don’t even know what the output will be, and when will it be done..
what do you do?

There was a time when @Benioff made an open offer to OpenAI team (during Sam Altman's OpenAI saga) and was ridiculed (don't want to work in Tableau, said somebody).
The dude is deep in the game, running the show and is having fun!
Claude just unblocked a deal stuck in Salesforce for 11 days. Live at #DF26. No slides. Real pipeline.
In seconds, it:
• Scanned the Slack thread
• Checked the security review
• Cross-referenced pricing history
• Executed the next step under standard seller permissions That’s Claudeforce. Not AI bolted onto CRM. Claude executing inside the system the business already trusts.
Trust first. Now it acts. ❤️💪
What am referring is that @Benioff has the balls to stay relevant and rule while others are hiding / staying hidden.
He is the man in the arena.

in which i look at the recent sam/dario 'collusion' from game theory perspective and here is my take - the 2 are trying to define what 'safe ai' is for the rest of the world (which in turn will impact open source adoption as well)

so damn true. been going through this.
you put it aptly (+ this also helped me put words to my feelings..rather the absence of it) @sunnkssdseraph
You have to be very, very careful with people who have lost parents, siblings or children. When someone experiences that level of loss, it changes how they see everything. Things that used to matter suddenly don't. They have less patience for fake energy, meaningless relationships or anything that destroys their peace. Because losing someone that's close doesn't just shatter your heart. It changes parts of who you are. Some storms don't just break branches, they change the way the tree grows forever. They move differently, they love differently, even behind their biggest smiles there's a way most people will never understand. Grief doesn't simply disappear with time. You just learn how to carry it. That's why they value real connections differently. I know firsthand that someone you love can be here today and gone tomorrow. So when they protect their peace, their energy, and the people they love. Understand where it comes from because they've already experienced what it feels like to lose someone they thought they'd have forever.
