I’ll second this - I’m a huge Jay fan and my wife and I always planned on going to night 2, last minute allowed us to go to night 1 as well. The sound quality was awful in the 400’s - it honestly made the show tough to enjoy. Some in our section left early - it was bad
All facts - I hate that we met @stknsoldiers and @baycitygirlsbb so late in my kids process - but I’ll always tell parents about these programs on the boys side and girls side. The individuals running these programs are full of experience and also class acts as humans
Dear AAU Parents,
Please take a little advice from a parent who has been around AAU basketball as a Coach & parent for 20+ years.
Stop chasing imaginary rankings from paid services
like PGH and cool social media posts from programs that over hype players on socials because that is all they can offer. Don't get caught up with trainers who are only worried about your children when they are in their gym.
Ask real questions of program directors about approach on player development,
college relationships and track record of getting players to college programs. Ask directors about recruiting plans for their players. Pay attention to programs that retain players and are not out recruiting over entire rosters year over year. Track record & trust between families & programs matters; especially in a rapidly changing recruiting landscape, you better be with a program that is committed to all their players and not just a few high profile girls.
The top of EVERY circuit has really good players/teams but the bottom of EVERY circuit has bad teams too. Being on an EYBL or 3SSB team, and playing 6-8 mpg can really hurt your recruitment. Not every program is a fit for every player/family but PLEASE do your homework!!
Have honest discussions about potential level of play in college and where your child might fit. Be very weary of anyone who only talks about D1.
Winning games in AAU is nice and hopefully your daughter is competitive and wants to win but it ultimately doesn't mean anything and not many college coaches are paying attention to the score unless one team is getting smoked. In fact, a coach might pay more attention to how your daughter is acting as a player when they are losing vs how they are playing in a 25pt win.
Good luck to all as the girls get prepared for the High School season.

I know I’m getting old, but this new rap music is just flat out awful - it sounds like an endless play list of the same awful song

Jeremiah Payne’s name and game are rising the charts.
He was offered by a local D1 school and is forging his own 🏈 legacy like his father, who starred at the next level. | @Jeremiah_Payne3

Another solid outing by @CeyeanBrown27 - outside of my own kid - he’s easily one of my favorite players on the team - works hard every possesion, great teammate, and overall good kid! I know the results weren’t what we wanted; but good game Ceyean!

I don’t know you personally, but as someone who worked for McClatchy at the News and Observer in Raleigh, I don’t think people realize how bad this is. What’s happened to local news is devastating.
When local coverage is gutted, you’re losing people who intimately know your community. The local perspective is lost and the narrative of the community becomes shaped by outsiders who don’t understand the people there or completely ignored altogether.
Probably not going to happen, but definitely a possibility - Will Davion Mitchell be the next former King to win an NBA championship?
What’s crazy about soccer is that the score was 1-0 but Spain absolutely dominated Argentina the entire match
