Replying to @Ridge_XR
There were at least three different “Rift 2” initiatives that I can remember that didn’t see the light of day. The earliest was codenamed “Tuzi” and used the panels that we eventually used for the first Quest along with an improved dual-camera Sensor.

Building @FrameworkPuter with @cmonkey over the past 4.5 years has been wild, and probably 10x harder than I ever expected. It's easy to get lost in the weeds when building, but our hike the other morning chatting about the Framework roadmap was a great reminder of why we started it and that the future of Framework is more exciting than ever.

If you want to understand how to build consumer hardware successfully as a startup, just watch this.
The fact that @BigscreenVR successfully shipped consumer hardware and is alive & growing today is thanks to bits of advice I received over the years from the hardware OGs like @ericmigi @PalmerLuckey and @cmonkey.
Common themes:
→ iterate fast, tight loop with customer feedback
→ don’t raise/spend tons of VC money. focus on cash efficiency, stay cash flow positive
→ don’t try to do what the big companies do, like $100 million dollar optics labs (that are grossly inefficient anyway!)
→ don’t die
Many forces keep pulling in the opposite direction. Raising more VC funding is way easier than good biz fundamentals! Lots of reasons and excuses to delay iteration in favor of big multi-year engineering projects.
Even after doing this years, hearing that advice repeatedly helped me not lose sight of what is working & helped maintain focus on what matters: listening to customers, iterating quickly, and shipping product.
