Caller: "I was in a relationship with a man for seven years." "He needed to borrow money. I know how you feel about that... but I did it anyway because I thought we were going the long haul." "$200,000 later... he lost all the money." "He was doing some crypto something. Lost all the money." "He has since ended the relationship." "So now I'm out $200,000, which was basically the majority of what I had." "He's making monthly payments, but he's basically just paying me the interest at this point." "I'm 55 years old and I have approximately $95,000 left to my name." "How can I make that money work for me so I'm not working forever?" Dave Ramsey: "Wow... that's a sad story of how we got here." Caller: "I really thought I was going to be going the long haul with him." "I still love him." Dave Ramsey: "The good news is he's in the rear-view mirror." "The bad news is we're $200,000 poorer." "Let's pretend none of that happened." "If you called me today and said, 'I'm 55 and I have $95,000,' I'd tell you you're going to be okay." "But the $95,000 isn't what's going to save you. Your work is what's going to save you."

I've put off writing a thread on "why I quit teaching" for a long time. Mostly because it's personal, and depressing. but it's important to see what's so bad about the status quo if you ever hope to change it, so I want to try and name the biggest factors:

It is actually crazy how much power narrative art has in development. Cases like this, where a Pixar movie literally saves a child’s soul (and ultimately his body), make evident what also happens in subtler ways in more ordinary circumstances.
I fled Iran the moment I turned 18. I was penniless and completely alone. I was trafficked and held captive as a slave for 5 years. What inspired me to flee was also what stopped me from giving up; the bootlegged movie on those CDs: Ratatouille (2007)...

Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, and others were inducted into the Hall of Fame this past weekend. The part you didn't know? A former car salesman that has never played in, coached, or broadcasted a single NBA game was also inducted. This is his incredible story 👇👇👇

This will go down in history as one of science and medical research's greatest achievements. Perhaps the most impressive. I put together a preliminary timeline of some key milestones to show how several years of work were compressed into months.

While most concerns about the US becoming like Putin's Russia focused on an authoritarian president, I'm starting to worry about an enfeebled Congress with extremist wings like Russia's: Nationalists and Communists!

I’m moving $1B of my Square equity (~28% of my wealth) to #startsmall LLC to fund global COVID-19 relief. After we disarm this pandemic, the focus will shift to girl’s health and education, and UBI. It will operate transparently, all flows tracked here: docs.google.com/spreadsheets…

Solar Eclipses are one of Nature’s great spectacles: The Sun is 400x wider than the Moon and 400x farther away, making them the same size on the sky -- endowing Earth with the most badass eclipses in the Solar System.

Doing a project for @LambdaSchool and looking for feedback. If you’re involved in the tech industry and/or hire software devs, what’s most important for a jr. dev breaking in with no exp? I never do this, but I’d appreciate if you RT’d for more feedback. If other, please reply.

Pathetic. "Innocent until proven guilty" only has meaning in places where there is rule of law, not in dictatorships where the ruler is the law.
BREAKING: Trump tells AP that Saudi Arabia being blamed for missing journalist is another case of "guilty until proven innocent."

Today, the greatest threat of extinction we face is not asteroids or climate change or disease or famine. It’s society’s refusal to heed the warnings of scientists.

It continues to be fascinating to watch Facebook basically argue: a sophisticated marketing campaign on our platform didn't influence user behavior.
