People like to gloss over the fact that she committed treason by passing military plans and other secret information to Austria during wartime
233 years ago today, Marie Antoinette was guillotined.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The image shows Archduchess Maria Josepha of Austria (Marie Antoinette's sister), not Marie Antoinette. commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Meyt… search.scalarchives.com/id/01502737 x.com/invitinghistor…

Incredible comic. Highly recommended if you share any interests with me
Every so often reminder that if you like my current work, go back and check out 20th Century Men. It's like apocalypse now with superheroes, it's the book that got me Ultimates, and I think it holds up. With @StipanMorian @adityab

The death penalty is inadmissible because it is an attack on the inviolability and dignity of the person. The common good can be safeguarded and the requirements of justice can be met without recourse to capital punishment: effective systems of detention have been developed that protect citizens while at the same time do not completely deprive those who are guilty of the possibility of redemption. #NoDeathPenalty

Like these people aren’t rich enough already?? What a disgusting spectacle. The people who actually work hard to make the movies and TV shows you like are having the value of all their labor taken and put into David Zaslav’s pocket

sounds like quite an interesting zone!
New: Katie and Stephen Miller’s home on a military base has become the most talked about party address in MAGA DC. She hires hibachi chefs, petting zoos, and a mechanical bull. It can feel like the entire cabinet is there. “Sometimes we joke: ‘Do we need a designated survivor for this one?’” vanityfair.com/story/stephen…

I sometimes feel bad for Constance Wu, Ana de Armas, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. They had real movie star momentum at the end of 2019 and never recovered it. Not the biggest consequence of COVID but still, sorry to them! Timing really is everything
I have no interest in a 'Crazy Rich Asians' show. But if Constance Wu (who was on the cusp of becoming an actual movie star pre-COVID), Henry Golding (who got zero second chances at 'Snake Eyes') and Ronny Chieng (my fav 'Daily Show' host) will get big (ish) bucks, I endorse it.

Even as New York Comic Con starts, I just had to join in on the prompt going around. Here are 9 classics I annoy people by talking about all the time, though I only quoted 1 at my wedding

I had a couple Lanterns nitpicks throughout its run, but needle dropping Waxahatchee in the finale — specifically “Right Back To It,” the song I walked down the aisle to earlier this year — means all is forgiven from me
Some Lanterns characterizations only make sense in reference to the source. Waterboarding Sinestro is ok if you’ve read a million comics where he’s Space Hitler. Disdain for Guy works if you know him as a stand-in for Reaganist machismo. But I keep seeing TV viewers confused!

Ngl I don’t like how Lanterns treats Guy being a gym teacher for special ed kids as a “lesser job” than the other Lanterns. It feels weird especially for a show trying to say that Green Lanterns are just space cops and not real heroes

Lanterns pulled off the seemingly impossible by making Green Lantern cool again. I talked to co-showrunner Chris Mundy about giving John Stewart a unique path to the ring, appealing to multiple audiences, and setting up possibilities for season 2 goldderby.com/tv/2026/lanter…

Lanterns fully reactivated the Green Lantern comic fan part of my brain. After revisiting some favs over the past few weeks, I put together a list of recommended reading for those interested in exploring the source material after watching the show! publishersweekly.com/pw/by-t…
