“Violence against women in American crime fiction is as old as the genre itself …” a smart and thought-provoking take on why from @JennyMHerrera, author of The Hunter
"[B]y repeatedly inflicting violence on female characters, we are...policing our actions and enlisting our aid in keeping others oppressed."

smart insight from @LisaEllisonsPen - and thanks for the mention of Crossing the River!
Memoirs that are currently selling have one thing in common: their personal stories intersects with something else. Check out the connections these authors made it in my latest post for @brevitymag

"Maybe it’s this disconnect between the experience of public and private mourning that has given rise to a damaging myth surrounding grief—that it should end after a year, and if it doesn’t, there must be something wrong with you," writes @clsmith321 bit.ly/3Mak4dY

Powerful, painful, thoughtful work from @clsmith321. The lies resonated with me. For a decade after my dad died, I let people think he was alive. No adult asking, "what about your dad?" wants to be met with, "he's dead and it's destroyed us." I wasn't ready to face it, either.
