Today we're launching an exciting new project: Highlights
Highlights is a syntax highlighter that outputs HTML. It improves on both speed and correctness compared to the existing industry standard libraries.
It's an optional drop-in replacement in Diffs, and it's ready to use today. In fact, it's already powering diffshubâ¤com!
Check it out at diffs.com/highlights
OR `pnpm install @âpierre/highlights`

Right. Dario was already claiming that GPT2 was too dangerous to open source back in 2019.
I made fun of them then.
Everyone should make fun of them now.

Dario has written that we need to âpace the frontier,â and Sam has agreed. People may be surprised by my response: go ahead.
You guys are the frontier. By any reasonable metric â market share, revenue growth, model capability â the two of you have a duopoly on frontier intelligence. Youâve also claimed the lead is widening because of recursive self-improvement.
I donât see what you see in the lab. If the unreleased models are scary enough that you think you should slow down, I support your decision to be responsible.
But stop pretending you need anyone elseâs permission. Stop pretending antitrust law has to be suspended so you can form a cartel. Stop pretending you need a regulatory approval process that supersedes product liability. Stop pretending METR is independent when it is intertwined with Anthropicâs investors and staff. Stop pretending you need those same evaluators to police competitors who arenât even at the frontier.
Most of all, stop pretending the motivation to slow down is purely altruistic. You face massive product-liability exposure if your products enable a truly damaging cyberattack. The market already punishes models that behave in unpredictable or unauthorized ways. After the Hugging Face episode, it is simply good business for OpenAI and Anthropic to trade some raw power for reliability and predictability. Call it alignment if you want. It is also just giving customers what they want.
Pacing the frontier would also create breathing room for a more intelligent conversation about regulation than Bernie Sandersâ âshut it all down.â China is very unlikely to join a global agreement, as you know, and that has to be taken into account as well.
So go ahead and pace the frontier. You are the ones setting it. The easiest way not to build superintelligence is for you to agree not to build it. Demanding your preferred regulatory framework as the price of that will look like blackmail of the public and the political system. So just do it.
If you do, youâll buy goodwill for the next conversation. If you donât, weâll know this was just another bid for regulatory capture â or an election-season psyop.
iâm afraid of KYC and you should be too.
KYC is a risk to your personal safety.
collecting personal information in the age of cyber security breaches everywhere is extremely irresponsible. and itâs not going to get any better any time soon.
our laws shouldnât require institutions to KYC, they should prevent them from doing so.
institutions that leak KYC information or fail to defend it from hackers should be punished by the law for risking their userâs safety.

At peak, Lovable creates 250 new repos per second on code.storage.
Simultaneously they improved fetch latency 230% from a more purely object storage solution.
If youâre a product builder and itâs scale and speed that youâre after, signups are now open.
code.storage/changelog/lovabâŚ
Signups are now open on Code[dot]Storage.
Today, more new repos are created per second on Code Storage than any other platform.
Lovable, Bolt, Amp, Poke, and many more of the largest agentic workloads store their code and agent memory at scale using Code.Storage.
BTW. Now that everyone complain about Github, probably a good time to remind that I've migrated all personal projects to Radicle and I've been using selfci radicle.network/nodes/radicl⌠to ensure clankers keep the trunk working at all times, and I couldn't be happier.
Edit is now live on diffs[dot]com.
This isn't just another Monaco or ProseMirror wrapper.
This is an entirely new edit implementation, built on top of our file and diff rendering primitives.

it is insane to me that people can build these gigantic clusters that can serve god tier intelligence but can't build a tui that can load in 50ms

my hot take is that Andrew Zig and Jarred Bun are both annoying blowhards and neither of them understands Rust or how to develop correct software, btw

Quick update. GitHub has decided our open-source project has been permanently banned with no explanation and no option to appeal, pointing to a ToS that clearly does not cover anything weâve ever done.
I guess itâs time for Bitcoin projects to leave @github.

Next big thing as predicted several months ago is git 2.0:
- Origin from Cursor/Graphite
- DeltaDB from Zed
- Project Switch from GitLab/Anthropic
- Code(dot)storage from Pierre
Are there more than these examples?

I just think that we could achieve everything we do today with computers, with a simplified "technical stack" consisting of 98% less stuff ... fewer complexities to deal with when making things on top, thus easier to create the things and the higher-quality they will be (and cheaper, and more robust, etc). But not that many people seem to care about this issue.
