It seems like there’s something new to learn about 9/11 every year.
TIL rescue dogs were getting depressed after 9/11 because they were finding so many human remains and few live bodies.
To remedy this, handlers & volunteers would hide in the rubble to stage a rescue so the dogs would have a reward and could get back to work with higher morale.
For some reason, it really hit me thinking about how even the dogs were discouraged by how many people were lost

As we mourn the souls stolen on that horrific day 25 years ago, we honor the extraordinary bravery of the first responders who rushed toward danger to save lives.

25 years ago, terrorists killed nearly 3,000 people, including 2,753 New Yorkers.
As we remember that terrible day, let us also remember the first responders, office workers and strangers who ran toward danger to help each other. Let us remember the extraordinary compassion, resilience and bravery that carried our city through its darkest
day.
