I coached football for 20 yrs both college & HS. Every 1st day of practice, "They're dying. We're not 'in shape'." You can run 20 110's for time, 40 40s, whatever. They're in trouble 1st day. You get in shape by playing the sport. Try to mimick the sport in conditioning β at Trussville, AL
Coaches who would be interested in attending a strength clinic in central Texas December 4th. I know some might be still in playoffs but if you weren't.
Kade stole my words. Great conference! My third one in a row and since the first one I attended I donβt miss. Texas has having its State clinic the Saturday before @THSCAcoaches in Houston show up
Thank you, @nhssca_us @NHSSCA_AL @dormanstrength @GR_Keith @DrEaves60 @CoachVanderbush Rich Gray, Gary Schofield, Ryan Johnson, @SteveSchween , @amandadberg , @RonnieJankovich

Common story:
Kid loves baseball. Decides to quit other sports & specialize in 8th grade.
Plays spring ball, summer travel ball, & fall ball. Private lessons over the winter. Ends up swinging/throwing 12 months straight.
Does this for 4 years.
48 months straight of the same back/arm stress.
And we wonder why so many HS players have Pars stress fractures and torn UCLs.
Now apply this to volleyball, golf, basketball, etc. We are breaking our kidsβ bodies in pursuit of scholarships.
Athletes need an offseason. Especially when theyβre 15.
When we can get everyone to understand this!
Coaches HATE TO SEE IT.
Athletes get visibly uncomfortable.
It takes maturity to handle it correctly.
It's the REST INTERVAL.
Too often we conflate activity with achievement. But when we're training for real speed, real power, or real strength?
The session should be a lot more standing around than working.
Because the prescribed work is to go at 100% - and that takes recovery time.
So rest when the training rx demands it.
I would love to see a resurgence of pre 90s local parks and recreation sports
PLAY REC LEAGUE FOR $100, PLAY SCHOOL SPORTS DURING SEASON. There is zero need to play 50 games a year of any sport!!
