This is true of the entire world
Honestly, Japan doesn’t have an overtourism problem so much as an overconcentration one. A few famous spots are drowning in demand while much of the country is dying for even a drop of it. Contrary to popular opinion and the mainstream media, much of Japan is still quite empty.

In my in-process MMT slide deck I have a section comparing Galileo’s heliocentric argument to MMT’s “taxes don’t fund spending”. The first thing I see in @clintballinger’s 1K Castaways is this. I think I’m going to love this book 🤗

Education falls within the guardian moral syndrome, not the commercial moral syndrome, (Jacobs 1992, Systems of Survival). That’s why the best ones always have and always should look like this
my most conservative opinion is that universities need to become almost Luddite if they want to survive as institutions of higher learning.

I’d reply something like this from @clintballinger and look at my watch wondering where they have been since 2019

Allow fed accounts and don’t even issue bonds. “Problem” solved

Seems kind of obvious that the best possible form of urban living is small streets and 4-5 story dwellings , with lots of street calming and vegetation. Perfect density but still calm . Incredible walkability but also safe for kids. Mixed use zoning obviously Somehow we fell in love with towers and bungalows and parking and pedestrianization , huge parks and wide boulevards and the extremes

“Decades of short-term demand-squashing policies are what have led to our *present* deficit of productive capacity.”
🧵 SUPPLY, DEMAND, INVESTMENT & INFLATION If you lack something you truly need, you are better off figuring out how to get it rather than just deciding to give up and go without. You increase supply rather than reduce your wellbeing by giving up on your demand 1/x

The Fed can always buy all the Treasury bonds that non-US investors do not want to hold. Apart from a change in the exchange rate in case non-US investors sell $ for other currencies nothing will happen. (If the Fed does its job of managing the US soverign debt market properly.) scmp.com/economy/economic-in…

Imagine reacting to a shortage of fuel by making financing conditions for new fuel production more expensive
JUST IN - U.S. Federal Reserve raises rates by 25 BPS for the first time in years as inflation continues to surge.

Why are such a large percentage of extremely annoying academics economists? We need to study the incentive structure of the discipline to understand this.

Now might be a good time for economists to start brushing up on Wassily Leontief's work. Forget FOMC etc economists. We need people who understand production & the real economy. Like, yesterday en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Input%…
