Today, I joined a bipartisan, bicameral small group meeting with President Zelenskyy. One thing was clear: outrage over Trump’s decision to make it easier for Russia to finance its brutal war against Ukraine crosses party lines. My colleagues and I may disagree on plenty, but we agree that the United States should be tightening sanctions on Putin and helping Ukraine defend civilians, not rewarding him as Russian missiles continue to rain down on Ukraine. Every concession to Putin without accountability only emboldens his aggression. Trump is shamefully and dishonorably sustaining Putin’s brutal war, with devastating consequences for our allies in Ukraine, NATO, and American credibility. My colleagues on both sides of the aisle must speak out, stand together, and demand that this administration stop this betrayal.
