Clean cooking is not one market with one answer. Different fuels and technologies are reshaping how households cook, helping to reduce smoke, improve health, and expand energy access in their own ways.

Why do many people who have access to clean cooking solutions still choose to use polluting fuels? To find out, CCA’s User Insights Lab conducted the largest study to date of "fuel stacking" in sub-Saharan Africa.
The findings were incredibly insightful. Find out more from the report: cleancooking.org/news/what-d…
Induction cooking in Tanzania has a powerful peer network.
The first time Eda saw an induction stove was at a community event. A neighbor brought one over and cooked on it. Eda watched, asked questions, got a vendor's phone number, and eventually had a stove delivered to her home. This acquisition story, in one form or another, repeats itself across nearly every household in CCA's User Insights Lab study of induction adoption in Dar es Salaam.

85% of households in CCA's latest induction cooking study brought up cookware that didn't fully meet their needs. The households that didn't raise this issue had a fuller set of cooking pots from the start.
This kind of user insight doesn't appear in regular customer usage data: it surfaces through in-depth conservations in people's homes.

Households in Tanzania are discovering for themselves the financial case for induction cooking.
Researchers with CCA's User Insights Lab spent hours in people's homes, watching them cook and asking about their week.
They learned that Juma compared his bills and realized his monthly energy costs went from TSh. 80,000 when cooking with charcoal to Tsh. 30,000 when cooking on induction. Doris' charcoal budget was TSh. 100,000 a month; after induction, electricity cost her TSh. 36,000.

Many countries recognize clean cooking as a climate priority: 75% of low- and middle-income countries now include it in their contributions under the Paris Agreement.
The next question is: How are those measures framed, and do they provide a clear enough signal to mobilize the finance needed to expand access to clean cooking?
