🌡️We’re closing on Thursday.🥵
Due to frankly unreasonably high temperatures on Thursday we'll be closing the museum for the day. Sadly, this also means that Thursday's event, "Meet the Greeks" will also be cancelled.
We apologise for any inconvenience this causes.
🥵Stay cool on your visit🥶
Our glass roof provides wonderful light, but it can also make the Cast Gallery very warm when the temperature is high outdoors.
If you're planning a visit when it's hot out, make sure that you stay safe and cool on your visit by following these tips.
Oh gosh, it's really hot, isn't it?
We'll be closing Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week - having a glass roof means lots of lovely natural light all year around, but it also means we heat up quickly!
Stay safe in this heat everyone...
🎉We're open tomorrow!🥳
Are you desperate to immerse yourself in ancient art but too busy in the week to make it to the Cast Gallery? Fret not: we're open on Saturdays in university term-time. Why not stop by?
👀Just one more sleep until Zero to Hero👀
Drop in tomorrow afternoon to make your own Greek armour, design a monster to face in battle, and so much more!
Not only will we be offering craft activities in the Cast Gallery throughout half term, but on Thu 28 May you'll get your chance to prove your mettle as an ancient hero.
Try out hands-on crafts, follow a new trail, and design a monster to battle - all in one legendary afternoon.
🥂Tonight's the night!🥂
Drink and Draw is back this evening (15 May), and we can't wait to welcome you.
If you'd like to try your hand at drawing some of the sculpture in our collection then drop in, grab a glass of wine, and get your sketch on!
We are thrilled to announce that Tom de Freston's exhibition, Poíēsis, has been extended!
You'll be able to explore de Freston's luminous, dreamlike work in our Cast Gallery until Oct 17, 2026.

Today in 1884 the Museum of Classical and General Archaeology opened on Little St Mary’s Lane (where it stayed until 1982), making this the Museum’s 142nd birthday.🎉
As always, many of our casts are in their birthday suits to celebrate...
‼️Don't miss your chance to book onto one of our Bridging Binaries tours next Saturday (2 May) and explore the ancient world from a new perspective with our fantastic volunteers.‼️
Tickets are free, but space is limited, so act soon!

The museum will be closing over the Bank Holiday weekend from Fri 3 April to Mon 6 April, so don't get caught out trying to visit tomorrow.
We will be open again as usual from Tues 7 April next week, so you won't be bereft of our casts for long.
It's just one week until a very special evening with Tom de Freston and Kiran Millwood Hargrave as they discuss de Freston's exhibition, poíēsis, with our director.
Book your free ticket now, and don't miss your chance to hear about our current show from both artist and subject.
Get ready to meet the Romans!
Start April with an afternoon of hands-on family fun as we explore the wonderful world of Roman portraits.
Follow special trails, decorate your own Roman armour, and make your very own Roman portrait to take home!
"Old and new, pale and colourful, but speaking the same language nonetheless."
