YOU CAN'T BAN A VOICE.
"I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" was the #3 most challenged book of the 1990s and #6 of the 2000s.
In 2026, the fight continues.
This #BannedBooksWeek, we stand for Dr. Maya Angelou's words and everyone's freedom to read them.

Today I turn 30 YEARS OLD, which means it’s been 14 YEARS since I was on #EducatingYorkshire. Incredibly, I’m now the SAME AGE Mr Burton was when he changed my life. As I say goodbye to my 20s, I dedicate this post to the life-changing teachers who never gave up on me. Thank you

Emergency services are looking for a three-year-old boy who went missing at a playground.
Police said Noah was at the playground in Brantham, Suffolk, at about 3pm when he was reported to have run down a nearby alleyway towards a newbuild housing estate.

A 16-year-old boy has died. His family are burying him today.
91 people thought the appropriate response was a laughing emoji.
Imagine seeing a grieving family and choosing cruelty. Absolutely disgusting.

It's time for my occasional reminder that balloons don't fly up to grandma up in heaven. They go up about five miles, burst, and fall back down.
What lands is a translucent scrap of latex with a ribbon attached, floating on water, stuck on land, looking almost exactly like a jellyfish. Sea turtles, seabirds and fish eat them.
Balloons are the deadliest piece of plastic a seabird can ingest, something like 32 times more likely to kill than a hard fragment, because soft latex folds and blocks the gut instead of passing through.
The ribbon stays intact for years, and it wraps around necks, wings and flippers long after the balloon itself is gone.
The biodegradable balloons don't fix the problem. University of Tasmania researchers buried latex balloons in industrial compost, the fastest breakdown environment that exists, and dug them up 16 weeks later fully intact.
Louisiana made intentional releases a finable offense this year. Most of Europe has banned them.
If you want to mark something: plant a tree, light a candle, blow bubbles, ring a bell. Whatever you're releasing it for, it isn't going where you want it to go.

My son Miles and I run the charity ourselves. We both work full time, so finding the time to organise fundraising events can be incredibly difficult.
Despite that, we are incredibly proud of what we have achieved so far.
We have raised more than £410,000 for brain tumour research in Charlotte's Lab at King's College Hospital, London, and we are now working towards our next £90,000.
If there are any companies that would be able to support us whether through fundraising, sponsorship, a workplace challenge or simply helping us raise awareness we would be incredibly grateful.

Mrs Brown’s Boys winning best comedy at the National Television Awards is precisely why Burnham won’t be calling an early general election - this country absolutely cannot be trusted to vote.

Since its foundation in 1824 the bravery of Royal National Lifeboat Institution volunteers has saved more than 146,700 lives at sea.
Hundreds of those volunteers have died attempting to save others. They are the best of us.
Any person or organisation questioning their actions or loyalty to this country should be corrected and ostracised.
Anyone can drown, but no one should.

With the heroes of the @RNLI under attack again, I’m reminded of this passage from Bill Bryson.

ALT I had never really stopped to consider what an extraordinary thing the Royal National Lifeboat Institution is. Think about it. A troubled ship calls for help, and eight people - teachers, plumbers, the guy who runs the pub - drop everything and put to sea, whatever the weather, asking no questions, imperilling their own lives, to try to help strangers. Is there anything more brave and noble than that? The RNLI - I looked this up later - is an organization run by volunteers, supported entirely by public donations. It maintains 233 stations around the coast of Britain and averages twenty-two call-outs per day. It saves 350 lives a year on average.

We're sorry to lose your support, Cyril. Our role is to go to the aid of people in danger on the water, without prejudice or exception, just as it has always been since 1824. If there is a risk to life, we will always launch.
