uv is one year old today. Hard to believe its only been a year. The growth, adoption, and impact surpassed my wildest expectations.
Happy birthday, uv! 🥳

We’re building a new static type checker for Python, from scratch, in Rust.
From a technical perspective, it’s probably our most ambitious project yet. We’re about 800 PRs deep!

Really interesting #python chat here between @cjolowicz and @bbelderbos on the @pybites podcast. Claudio's excellent @OReillyMedia book #Hypermodern #Python #Tooling can be bought here: tinyurl.com/fhppppra
Chatting with Bob Belderbos on the @pybites podcast about my recent book Hypermodern Python Tooling and why coding is like playing music 🎶 Thanks Bob, really enjoyed this!

uv has shipped `uv sync —no-editable` in 0.4.11 which means we can use it in multi-stage builds! 🎉 (instead of a combo of `uv sync` + `uv pip install`)

Today, we're shipping a series of features that move uv beyond a pip alternative, and into an end-to-end solution for managing Python projects, command-line tools, single-file scripts, and even Python itself.
A single, unified tool. Like Cargo, for Python.
It's very fast.

Enjoying the changelog from yesterday's pip 24.2 release - almost every entry is talking about improving performance! I'm sure @charliermarsh's uv has something to do with that! pip.pypa.io/en/stable/news/

In my quest to produce a shorter video, I’ve produced my longest so far:
tox vs Nox: What are they for & How do you choose?: youtube.com/watch?v=ImBvrDvK…
In which I introduce those two indispensable tools and reflect my own usage of BOTH. Enjoy!

I’ve spent some time playing with uv and GitHub Actions and action/cache.
The latter’s behavior is a bit idiosyncratic, but I think I’ve built something overall usable: github.com/hynek/setup-cache…
LMK what y’all think.
You can now `uv pip install .` instead of `uv pip install example@.`

Build 1.1 is out, and in some cases it's over 2x faster than 1.0, such as in my favorite way to use it, "pipx run build"!

Nox 2024.3.2 is out! The new optional uv backend is blazing fast, and it has several long awaited features, like --force-python on non-parametrized sessions, venv reuse options, an envvar for backend selection, backend sequences with fallthrough, and more!

New video: Is uv the future of Python Packaging?
I’ve set out with a yes/no question to keep it short, but somehow ended up contextualizing Python’s packaging problems and the video ended up 18 mins long.
Enjoy, like, subscribe, etc!

Using @charliermarsh's UV (pip/venv replacement) as a nox backend drops the time taken to build docs from 22 second docs build to 4.2 seconds!
