India’s high use of flexible packaging makes circularity in this segment an important part of reducing plastic waste and recovering more material value.
In his article, “Advancing the circular economy for flexible plastics”, Jonathan Moore, Specialist - Packaging, WRAP, looks at the challenges of recycling flexible packaging in India and the need to accelerate the shift towards recyclable mono-material formats. He also highlights the role of collaboration across brands, converters and recyclers through the India Plastics Pact.
On how market demonstration can help speed up adoption, he writes, “By demonstrating to the market that new recyclable formats across a variety of packaged products can be placed on the market we can derisk the development for other businesses, thereby accelerating the move to the circular economy.”

Financing India’s net-zero transition will require mobilising capital at a scale that domestic public finance cannot meet on its own.
In his article, “De-risking India’s green transition”, Prof Amit Garg, Professor and National Investment & Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) Chair in ESG, IIM Ahmedabad, explores how India can draw more long-term institutional capital into green infrastructure. He focuses on addressing early-stage project risk, improving green finance frameworks and tackling barriers such as currency exposure that can make otherwise viable projects less attractive to investors.

Mobilising capital for the sustainability transition is not only about the availability of finance. It is also about creating the conditions that allow capital to move.
In her article, “Creating the conditions: financing the transition at speed and scale”, Mary Schapiro, Vice Chair, Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ), focuses on four priorities: building pipelines of bankable projects, using public finance catalytically, strengthening enabling environments and building capacity across the financial system. She also points to India’s progress as an example of how strong policy fundamentals can help attract investment at scale.
