Wow! Just sit with that for a moment: “I shall see your face.” What an extraordinary hope. To stand before the God who knows us completely and loves us beyond measure. Psalm 17 ends with this deep confidence: God himself will satisfy our hearts. We can bring him our longing to be understood, our weariness and our unanswered questions. He sees us now, and through Jesus we look forward to the day we will see him face to face. Until then, we can seek his presence in the middle of ordinary life. Among the homes on our estates, in our struggles and our moments of joy, we can turn towards him. One day, face to face. Fully known. Completely loved. Satisfied.

Some days, joy comes easily. Other days, we arrive tired, worried or weighed down. God welcomes us as we are. Worship gives us space to remember his goodness. As we sing, we turn our attention towards the God who loves us and holds us through every season. We can bring both our thankfulness and our struggles into his presence. Today, pause and name one thing you are thankful for. Let that be the beginning of your worship.

God has given each one of us an assignment. There are good works he has called us to do and people he has called us to nurture and care for, in our families, our churches and our communities. We are called to guard what he has entrusted to us. To keep loving, keep praying and keep being faithful, even when it’s difficult or we don’t see much changing. Sometimes that means protecting time for the people or ministries God has placed in our lives. Sometimes it means refusing to let distractions pull us away from what he has asked us to do. And sometimes it means asking for his strength to keep going. Today, take a moment to ask, Lord, who and what have you entrusted to my care, and how can I be faithful with it?

Jesus knew what was ahead when he spoke these words. He would willingly go to the cross, laying down his life because he loves us that much. Sometimes we struggle to believe we’re loved. We know our mistakes, our doubts and the things we wish we’d done differently. Yet Jesus knows all of that too, and still calls us his friends. We can rest in that love today. And as we receive it, we can share it—making time for someone, listening properly, forgiving, or walking alongside a neighbour who’s struggling. Small, everyday choices through which people can experience something of Jesus’ love

Sometimes the wind blows and life feels anything but steady. We can be trusting Jesus and still feel frightened, tired or unsure. These words were written to people who knew what it meant to struggle. They were encouraged to keep holding on because the God who had promised could be trusted. That’s our hope too. Whatever we’re facing today, Jesus is with us. His faithfulness doesn’t change with our circumstances. – at Barnet, London

As we come to the end of the day, some of us will have much to be thankful for. Others may be feeling worn out, disappointed, or worried about things that are still unresolved. Whatever this day has held, God’s steadfast love has been with us through it all. These words from Lamentations were written in the middle of grief and difficulty. They remind us that we can be honest about our struggles and still trust in God’s faithfulness. His love hasn’t run out during the day. He hasn’t grown tired of our prayers. He knows what has been hard, what has brought us joy, and the things we haven’t found words for. Tonight, we can bring it all to him. The things we’re grateful for, the things we wish we’d done differently, and the worries we’re carrying into tomorrow. We can rest, knowing that God’s care for us continues through the night. And when morning comes, his mercies will be new again.

Jesus invites us into a partnership. The Holy Spirit will testify about him, and we have a part to play too. We get to share what we have seen and experienced of Jesus in our own lives. That can feel a bit daunting. We might worry about finding the right words or being asked something we can’t answer. But Jesus promises to send the Helper. His Spirit is already at work in the people we meet, and he helps us as we speak. I wonder who we’ll have an opportunity to share with today? As we listen to someone, share a cuppa or talk about what’s going on in our lives, there may be a moment to tell them something of what Jesus means to us. We can ask the Holy Spirit to help us recognise that moment and give us courage to take it.

A servant might be told what to do without ever being told why. They have a job to get on with, but they aren’t invited into the conversation. Jesus says that our relationship with him is different. He shares with us what he has heard from his Father. He wants us to know his heart, to understand what matters to him and to be part of what he’s doing. That’s quite an invitation. We can ask questions, listen and grow in understanding. We won’t always see the whole picture, but Jesus has brought us close enough to know the Father’s love and his desire for the world. As we go about today, let’s ask Jesus to help us understand his heart for the people and situations in front of us.

Sometimes we can be so caught up in what’s difficult that we miss the signs of God’s love around us. The changing colours of the trees, a friendly face, someone checking we’re okay. Little things that remind us we are loved. That doesn’t mean everything is easy or that we have to pretend it is. But even on the difficult days, God’s love hasn’t gone anywhere. His love is unfailing. It doesn’t run out when we’re struggling or give up when we get things wrong. I wonder where we might notice his love today and how we might help someone else experience it too.

It’s easy to sing about Jesus being King of our hearts, but I wonder what that looks like in the everyday. Does he shape how we respond when someone upsets us? Do we bring our decisions to him, or only ask for help when things go wrong? Giving Jesus first place is something we keep coming back to. In the middle of all that fills our minds and pulls at our hearts, we can pause and ask, “Jesus, what would you have me do?” Then trust him enough to follow.
