Automatic app updates still don’t update automatically on iOS 27. And now we know why: this is the PM responsible. That feature never stood a chance.

Okay so AI is anthropomorphizing itself. “To me” it says…

A reminder of the power of ideas. Ideas are more than reflections of material conditions, religious doctrine, or political grievances. Ideas motivate extraordinary sacrifice, violence, and social change. Their power is independent of their legitimacy. This essay reminds us that the failure to take ideas seriously leaves societies unable to understand their adversaries, defend their values, or recognize when tolerance is being used to undermine liberalism itself. IMO, this essay should be required curriculum. youtu.be/84gzkfDXkAU?is=BHXS…

From @MosesSternstein in the @a16z newsletter: “Since 2024, for the counties with already operating data centers, the picture is uniformly better: •more housing, •higher home values, •less unemployment; and •more job growth.”

Said it before and saying it again. It always takes a village to make a company, and to make a legend. Very proud of what we’ve built here - no one tries to be the only hero on a company or a deal, everyone works together to help our companies succeed. Go Team Infra!!! See how our team mom @KatieBaynes prepared us for a family photo.
I've never worked on a deal in venture that didn't involve multiple people. Not just in supporting roles, but critical to getting the deal done and making the company successful. I don't think we recognize enough how much venture really is a team game.

Ro, “in your scenario, the founder could sell to pay a one time 5 percent tax or the state could sell it if he defaults on the loan” Ro, this is the biggest fuck you in the history of entrepreneurship. Ever. Creating jobs but don’t have cash. Fuck you Can’t sell shares, we will sell it for you, to whoever. Fuck you. Creating jobs. Paying great wages instead of taking cash out yourself. Fuck you Reinvesting into your company and community. Fuck You. Don’t you know that Jensen, and Lisa Su, and people who have vast amounts of liquidity already have no problem with it. Fuck You There is a huge difference between someone with liquidity , running a huge public company, and someone who has dedicated every minute of who knows how many years, to building a company, to finally have a dream financing come true , only to be insulted by a politician. “We will sell your shares for you “ GTFO

Mark, most of the 250 billionaires in California DO NOT have this liquidity issue. They have public stock. In your scenario, the founder could sell to pay a one time 5 percent tax or the state could sell it if he defaults on the loan. Ask Jensen, Lisa Su, Sundar if they plan to leave California if this ballot initiative passes. Btw 85 percent of the nation's VC money came in Q1 2026 to California. I love your passion. I respect your intellect and ability to get things done. Why not put this energy in figuring out how we bring capital and high paying jobs to every community in America? Why not put it towards figuring out the policy that expands childcare or healthcare (as you are working on reducing drug pricing)? Of all the things in America, aren't those more pressing issues than a one time 5 percent tax on 250 billionaires to pay for healthcare for poor kids and families in California?

This article is shocking. 😮 Maybe we should stop blaming data centers for our energy problems, as it seems there are worse systematic issues that warrant serious attention.

Ro, that’s insane. You want the state to loan money to the founder, who will then immediately give it back to the state as a wealth tax ? Meaning the state has not received any incremental receipts? What’s the point of that ? Unless of course you want the gov to own shares (something I thought you criticized) and possibly have control, of companies who underperformed, (or the funding market changed), and couldn’t pay back their loans over those 10 years ? And I’m sure the investors in those companies will be thrilled about their new partners. That will make for interesting board meetings. “Today’s first topic is trying to figure out how to motivate the founder(s). They just lost $250m of their shares in the company they founded, to the state of California. Anyone got any ideas ? “ But at least it’s amazing for state’s brand. “Cali, You make it. We take it !” Come on Ro. Ideology is not a strategy. @GavinNewsom

Allow illiquid founders to pledge shares with a loan from the government to pay tax. The loan period is long but not infinite (e.g. 10 years). The loan is non-resource: at the end of the period, the loan is either paid back in cash, or the government assumes the shares.

You can’t look at this chart and still believe that AI adoption doesn’t have many more orders of magnitude of growth in the near term. But growth is bottlenecked by compute, so we’ve got to reign in the data center boogieman narrative.

I can’t help but subscribe to @benthompson’s idea that idea creation and substantiation are two different acts. Perhaps AI is simply a tool for substantiation. We’ve lived under the illusion that they’re a single activity because we lacked tools to distinguish between the two. The challenge is that AI defaults toward high-probability / generic forms of expression. So wielding it becomes a skill in overcoming probabilities. As we become better at directing it away from generic sentence structures and word choices and toward language that feels distinctly ours, I suspect we’ll care less whether something was written with AI and more whether the underlying idea and its expression are distinctive. Photography couldn’t stand alongside painting as art, until it did. Film couldn’t stand alongside theater, until it did. Computer animation couldn’t stand alongside hand-drawn animation, until it did. AI-assisted creation will be no different.
