For @spike_art food issue, I propose a theory: the RISE of foodie-ism, i.e. food/restaurants becoming a need-to-know category offering cultural cachet, can be directly attributed to the DECLINE of traditional haute culture forms—art, fashion, cinema etc

This is insane. A species of Asteraceae (Heterosperma pinnatum) changes what kind of seeds it produces according to local growing conditions. If conditions are lousy, seeds with wind-dispersal structures are produced so the next generation can get the hell out of there.

Counterpoint—kids have always hated wearing coats. The classic mom directive is “put your coat on!!!” And bc of global warming, it’s easier to go coatless, making their rebellion less cool
