A thread on the annual @TeacherTapp board marker showdown.
I’m a fierce #TeamBullet advocate. I’ve just seen this week’s blog saying Chisel Tip is on a seven year winning streak. I beg to differ.
I can barely cope with the fact that Team Chisel Tip has won in 2024 (a travesty). But for @TeacherTapp to ascribe these philistines a seven-year dominance? This cannot stand.
I mean, I know there are more important things than board marker tips in the world. But I am heavily invested in this. And I demand that @TeacherTapp sets the record straight on behalf of all Bullet Tip advocates everywhere!

In this new parliament there are now as many state educated Sacred Heart Girls as there are old Etonian boys.
I’m proud to be an Education Minister in a Labour Government that better reflects the country and that will focus on breaking down the barriers to opportunity for all.

🚨 NEW: I've just announced a pause and review of the defunding of BTECs
By doing so, we will:
✅ Support BTEC students
✅ Commit to roll out T-Levels
✅ Conclude the review by the end of the year
A government that does what it promised to do. Sensible, grown up decision making. Listening to the profession.
What a relief.

📢 "The key thing for me this evening was hearing about that desire to work collaboratively, to cooperate, to listen to the profession & together we can make a difference for young people" Hear from the teaching profession as @bphillipsonMP welcomed stakeholders @educationgovuk

We’re resetting the relationship between the government and teachers, so we can be partners in the push for better once again.
No more silly games. We will treat the workforce, and their trade unions, with the dignity and respect they deserve.

Opportunity should be for all – not just a lucky few.
That’s why education is at the heart of the change this Labour government will make and will be at the forefront of national life once more.
Let’s get to work.

A privilege to welcome @bphillipsonMP as the new Secretary of State for Education today, and to hear her talk so passionately about opportunity and public service.

This is quite the endorsement from Lord Harris. A real vote of confidence in @bphillipsonMP and Labour’s education team from someone who was previously hailed by Gove as a “hero” and “saviour” of schools.
'I have watched with admiration as Sir Keir Starmer and Bridget Phillipson have set out Labour’s stall.
'She gets teaching, knows that expanding and improving the teacher workforce and tackling the epidemic of mental ill health are both vital'

As part of the @SchoolCuts coalition, ASCL General Secretary @pepediiasio says the next government must make sure capital funding for schools is “adequate and delivered to the frontline”.

Schools could have an extra £36,000 each on average to spend on buildings if @educationgovuk reallocated unspent capital budgets, claim unions @NEUnion, @NAHTnews and @ASCL_UK
