Props to Turnstile for putting on young DIY artists like Elton John and Dying Fetus. The exposure there about to get is so dope 🙌
I have no idea what you're talking about. I own a bike shop in Portland Maine and would say the lion's share of our customers are over 50. We sell cycling, not elitism.
The cycling industry has a €2 billion blind spot.
And they're completely ignoring it.
Let me break this down:
The 50+ cyclist.
Every bike shop, every brand, every marketing campaign is chasing the same demographic:
25-40 years old
High disposable income
Performance obsessed
Already cycling
Meanwhile, there's a massive group being ignored:
The over-50 crowd with money, time, and zero interest in marginal gains & aero socks.
The stats are staggering:
- 67% more disposable income than younger cyclists
-3x more likely to buy premium products
- 40% more time to actually ride
- Growing by 12% year-over-year
But walk into any bike shop and what do you see?
Aero wheels. Power meters. Marketing that screams "go faster, save 5 watts, reduce rolling resistance"
Here's what the 50+ market actually wants:
Comfort over speed
Reliability over racing tech
Heritiage
Premium feel
Community over competition
Experiences over equipment
The opportunity?
Specialized comfort bikes that don't look like grandpa bikes.
Group rides focused on scenery, not segments.
Bike travel packages designed for people with actual vacation time.
Service packages for people who hate maintenance.
Instead, the industry keeps pushing the same "watts per kilo" narrative.
They're missing the biggest growth opportunity in cycling.
Smart brands will figure this out soon.
The dumb ones will keep chasing 23-year-olds with credit card debt.
Fun Maine Gravel Series ride out of Orono Brewing today. It poured rain for most of the ride but we had a blast just the same!
I found one of these at a yardsale when I was a kid an bought it. They worked absolutely great for side hills and weird terrain. Were they dangerous? Absolutely! But due to the lightness, low friction, and every-which-way maneuverability they were awesome for certain tasks.
How many of you have seen or perhaps used one of these hover lawnmowers by Flymo? This is a 1980s model and was very popular for a while until they were banned for use in the United States due to safety reasons from what I understand. They had no wheels and rode on a cushion of air so they’re very easy to push. They’re still available in other countries and even in electric models.
Grift away...
Let me get this straight.
Trump, the only president since Nixon not to release his tax returns, and who promised he would release his tax returns when he was president, is suing the government for $10 billion dollars in "damages" for leaked tax returns which reveal his corruption.
And his DOJ, which is run by his personal lawyer who he appointed as "Acting AG," is going to settle.
So the American people are now gong to personally pay a corrupt president $10 billion of our hard earned tax dollars, because his feelings got hurt when his shady tax returns were leaked?
Got it. 👌
Our world famous Allspeed Bike Swap is back on May 16th in Portland Maine. Our swap is a great way to buy and sell used bikes. Seller drop off is now through Friday 5/11.
