This is your quarterly reminder that if you have young kids and are a fan of the open web, they should be using kidzfun.art on whatever tablet you have at home! It’s a fun and educational Progressive Web App I built for my own kids this year.

Winter is coming in Ireland, and the Met Eireann app just doesn't cut it, so I built rainy.ie on their great open data to keep you dry (or at least just a bit damp). Totally free, install it on any phone right from the website.

Say hello to apps.chofter.com I finally got around to building a proper home for the smorgasbord of apps & tools I’ve built over the years. Currently at 20, let’s see where it is in 12 months!

I once again used my ridiculously fast app diskspace.io to find where 50GB disappeared from my Mac & cleaned it up. Building things to scratch your own itches really does result in the best tools don't you think? It works on Windows and Linux too if they're your thing

I'm in my own special nerd hell. Building a website that must be performant on a TV browser (testing with a Samsung tv browser). Wow these things are brutally slow. Don't even think about trying to load more than one image at a time. Web workers are helping a lot, but damn.

Hey @Apple, the new iPhone Duo looks great but some of us were out there putting the controls on the sides before it was cool :-) kidzfun.art

I'm finding Claude Code to be unusable without `/goal`. It continually writes serious bugs, I tell it to run review agents, it finds its bugs & fixes them. Rinse repeat it finds more bugs. `/goal` runs this until there are no serious bugs. Do others get it right 1st time?

Say hello to Disk Space (diskspace.io), my latest release and fastest way to clean up your Mac, Linux or Windows PC. It's blazingly fast, helps you find recently added files, and makes it both quick and safe to delete many files.

Here's a little demo of the Mac version. It borrows very heavily from the old app Disk Inventory X, but massively improves it. It's up to 10x faster, saving > 20 minutes on a full disk scan. It highlights recently changed files, the usual culprits of a full disk, and more.

Yesterday I felt like I was back in 2011, figuring out how to make 1000s of images scroll infinitely @ 60fps. This is a React Native desktop app I'm building. I tried using Claude (4.8 & 5) helped a bit, not enough. It couldn't seem to think completely out of the box. So ....

.. then layer the real components on top when the scroll stops to handle clicks, selection states etc. 60fps baby! Damn it feels good to still be ahead of the machines, if only for a moment. Worked for John Henry right?

Still work to do to improve the slight flicker when quickly scrolling, but that's the easy part. The fact that React Native makes it quite simple to build a native component to take heavy work completely off the UI thread is an undersold feature methinks.

Hi @Gwynne_Shotwell! Just making sure you knew that these changes are frustrating for the sailing community. We might not be your largest market, but we had been long-term loyal fans! Unfortunately most of this sector is being forced back to local cell technology and Iridium - presumably what you were trying to disrupt all along. So it's a step backwards for everyone. Maybe you already knew this issue and it's a trade-off you're deliberately making. But in case you didn't... just removing the 90 day limit on localization might be all it takes to fix things. Thanks! – at Fiji
It took us years to sail here. We can’t return home every 30 days! A message for @Starlink and @elonmusk: Your magical service has transformed life for sailors. It provides access to vital weather information and passage-planning tools, helps us obtain assistance in emergencies, and enables remote work, family contact, and even home schooling for families at sea. But this month, the rules are changing in a way that breaks this model for international sailors. Roam Unlimited will permit only 30 days of service outside an account’s registered home country. After that, we must either return home, localize our account to the country we are visiting (which appears possible only once every 90 days), or switch to the metered Global Priority plan - priced more like a commercial shipping service. Those choices may work for short-term tourists, land-based travelers, or people relocating. But they do not work for people on boats. A Pacific crossing, for example, can involve month-long stays in seven or eight countries. It’s the same for sailors moving through Asia, the Caribbean, or even Central America. Home remains thousands of miles away and is certainly unreachable every 30 days. We understand that you need to navigate licensing, registration, and network-capacity constraints. But international sailors need just a little more flexibility in the policy in order to remain customers. This could be very simple! Just relaxing the apparent 90-day country transfer restriction, for example, would allow us to localize our account whenever we sail into a new country. (And we’re still expecting to pay for ‘Ocean Mode’ in between.) Starlink set out to connect people wherever they are. Please don’t exclude us just because of how sailboats move. We would love to help you tweak the policy, and keep voyaging sailors and their families connected, wherever the winds take them. Thank you!

This is a fun little feature I'm adding to the app I'm building - exporting a video of a trip/holiday you went on. Looking forward to shipping this!
