Major breakthrough in the field of weather forecasting...
It seems our modeling capabilities are far outpacing our observational networks (e.g. radiosonde network recently taking a hit). We need to shift our efforts on the observational side to keep up w/the modeling!
We open-sourced our GPU port of WRF and named it WOOF (Weather Observations and Operational Forecasting). We want everyone to have access to fast and cheap weather simulations.

Newly surfaced video showing the massive landslide that occurred just a few hours after the main glacier collapse, resulting in the formation of a barrier lake that dammed the Lhende Khola River along the Nepal–Tibet border.

This is seriously scary. CCTV footage from Gyirong Port in Tibet, China, directly opposite Nepal’s Rasuwa district. This flash flood hit here first and later caused massive havoc in Nepal. Can’t even imagine someone surviving this. Prayers for everyone affected. 🙏

🦔Georgia Power is using eminent domain to seize 21 homes and 330 properties in Coweta County to build transmission lines for AI data centers. Angela Hall, a 49-year-old single mother who escaped public housing to buy her 2.5-acre Newnan home, has until August 1 to leave.
The nearby Project Sail data center proposal would put nine buildings on 830 acres demanding 900 megawatts, enough to rival a nuclear reactor. Coweta commissioners approved the rezoning 3-2 in April. Citizens for a Rural Coweta and Stop Project Sail are now suing.
My Take
Eminent domain should worry every homeowner in a state with hyperscaler activity. The legal mechanism that lets a private utility company seize private property for "public use" was designed for highways, water mains, and electrical grid maintenance, not for transmission lines dedicated to a single industrial customer. When Georgia Power takes Angela Hall's home so 900 megawatts can flow to Project Sail, the public benefit is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that calculation, and the courts will spend the next decade sorting out which uses qualify.
The resistance is now organized, well-documented, and showing up in court filings, zoning appeals, and viral social media at the same time. Coweta joins Saline Township, Tucson, Fayetteville, Lake Tahoe, Phoenix, and Utah on a list that gets longer every week. Each fight looks local. Together they form a pattern hyperscaler capex models have not priced in. The buildout pace Microsoft, Meta, Google, and Amazon assume depends on land getting permitted quickly, transmission getting built quickly, and communities accepting the tradeoffs. None of those assumptions are holding up.

George H.W. Bush kept his assets in a blind trust, as did Bill Clinton. Neither Obama nor Biden traded stocks or bonds while in office. 3,700 trades is probably more than all the trades of all the presidents until now. And he is trading stocks that are affected by his decisions. A walking conflict of interest, at the least, and perhaps insider trading. Just as members of Congress should not be able to trade stocks, so too the president. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

🦔Residents living near AI data centers are reporting constant low-frequency hum measured as infrasound, sound below the human hearing threshold that causes dizziness, nausea, vertigo, and sleep disruption. The noise comes from cooling systems and onsite gas turbines hyperscalers are building behind-the-meter to bypass slow grid interconnects.
Local zoning rules do not regulate infrasound because traditional noise ordinances only measure decibels in the audible range, leaving residents with no legal recourse. The video below captures what households near these facilities are living with around the clock.
My Take
The infrasound problem does not exist in the regulations because the technology producing it at scale did not exist when the rules were written, and developers know exactly which rural jurisdictions lack the framework to push back.
Households who bought before the data center was announced get to choose between selling at a loss or living with symptoms that did not exist a year ago, and that cost is being externalized onto people who never agreed to host critical infrastructure for the AI buildout.

⚡️ Big news today: Form Energy will deploy a 300 MW / 30 GWh multi-day iron-air battery system with @xcelenergy to help power a new @Google data center in Minnesota.
At 30 GWh, this is the largest battery system by energy capacity ever announced globally. 🌍 It also marks Form Energy’s first deployment for a data center — demonstrating the unique value of 100-hour iron-air batteries in meeting the 24/7 energy needs of the AI economy.
The batteries for this project will be made in America at Form Factory 1 in Weirton, West Virginia. 🇺🇸 Form Factory 1 has already started commercial production and is on track to reach a production capacity of 500 MW per year by 2028.
We’re incredibly proud of this milestone and look forward to working with Xcel and Google to support a reliable, sustainable, and affordable electric grid — helping power the next generation of innovation. 🔋

“…no windmills in China.”
You mean the China that’s building wind power 2x as fast as the rest of the world combined?
That China?
Burchett: God put coal in the ground, let's use it… There's a reason as Trump told me that there’s no windmills in China.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
China achieved a new milestone in its energy transition, with wind and solar power together generating a quarter (26%) of the country’s electricity in April 2025. Wind power accounted for 13.6% of generation while solar contributed 12.4%.

Question for you, @LynAldenContact
Does the burst in global population growth have anything to do with the Federal Reserve being created in 1913?

ERCOT demand went over 78 gigawatts today. Demand response and solar kicked in on peak. Solar provided ~30% of the power on peak and prices were, as usual low. Just a few years ago, we likely would've had a conservation call on a day like this. Not anymore.

The poor and working class were devastated by the 2020 CARES Act.
Those $1200 checks were the cheese in the trap. Most of the trillions of dollars in that bill went to corporations.
Eventually the inflation it created mugged everyone except Wall Street.

Agricultural subsidies are a $30B+ annual allocation of capital that concentrates resources in the largest producers.

After several delays, @DOGE has finally posted its purported savings. Why did it take so long to create a simple webpage with a 1000-row table? Who knows! Let's dig in.
Headline number: $55B saved. They list the savings per nixed contract. This should be easy to verify then.

It's Monday. @DOGE is the laziest, most overpaid bunch of incompetent, unelected bureaucrats we've ever seen.

Nancy Pelosi’s husband has had a real estate and venture capital firm since 1969—this was 18 years before she was first elected to Congress.
You can see how Nancy and Paul Pelosi’s wealth grows year by year in their financial disclosures; it’s not a mystery. You may disagree with it, but it’s very visible how their fortune grew.
Also, I’m not sure she’s worth $202 million, but she’s definitely worth over $100 million.
Mitch McConnell’s wealth primarily comes from his father-in-law, a billionaire shipping magnate.
He gifted his daughters large lump sums, as many wealthy people do. Those lump sums were listed on Mitch McConnell’s financial disclosure forms when they were made.
Elaine Chao has also had a successful corporate career, serving on the boards of Wells Fargo, Kroger, and News Corp.
Elizabeth Warren is not worth that much, lol—she is worth between $8-$12 million.
Before she went into the Senate, Warren was a successful speaker, consultant, author, and professor.
She made $350k a year as a professor, made a few million as a consultant for companies, and was a well-paid speaker and author.
Again, much of this is listed in her forms; it’s not a mystery.
Chuck Schumer is not worth that much—this is genuinely hilarious. He’s worth around $1 million.
Until a few years ago, he was famously sleeping on a couch in a home he shared with three other members of Congress!
