A period drama about social climbers and petty rich squabbling on hbo is going to be winning the ratings battle handily against a lotr show with 5x the budget next month and they only got themselves to blame

the trick to successful storytelling is not letting the audience see the wizard behind the curtain pulling the strings. one of the quickest ways to break immersion is when a story asks the audience to accept something the narrative hasnt earned & thats the state of romance atm

Iβve been keeping this meme in the back pocket but Iβll share it now in advance for a salty haha π€£
like setting aside temptation for sauron but will galadriel even experience temptation over the one ring at this rate.... did mcp even let her have that lol.

the emotional development of the heroine in relation to the villain being pretty much done off-camera in a five year gap, thatβs being treated like a soft reboot, is so lazy lmao im sorry thatβs such a cop out.
lmao. and they didnβt have to make it so difficult for themselves. imagine actually putting engaging content In your show in the first place instead of scrambling last minute to pretend you did. reap what you sow.

two seasons of character arc, countless interviews talking about the romantic implications (that were also obvious on screen), just for it to have no consequences on the actual character in S3 cause we're doing a soft reboot. I'm glad I know this so I can manage my expectations.

imo, this moral framework is also the reason galadriel was completely erased from eregion. because the big question after 'why do sauron and galadriel have a connection at all' is 'why did galadriel allow annatar to remain in eregion if she had suspicions about his true identity' which would have underlined her ambitions to be queen - a desire which was only ever referenced in the final raft confrontation in front of the only character who connects with her at this level. instead, we're told that her drive for vengeance was bad, and she led Satan back to their shores, ergo she should be shrouded in guilt and this is what she should be penitent about, not her pride and defiance against the order of the valar (which is exactly the same thing sauron commits, as he turns away from the offer of potential forgiveness and redemption via manwe's judgement).
they're wrongly focusing on the ways the two are on complete opposite sides, not that they are one and the same at their core.

this randomly blowing up right as #saurondriel autumn sets in okayyy

the fact they referenced the stupid flaming eye as the final destination for their version of sauron is really telling.

Their benchmark isn't the PJ films, which they've already outgrown in terms of fidelity to the darker aspects of the canon's messaging. Their benchmark is Dune: Part 3. I wish they would realise this.

the mormons keep writing themselves into a corner because they're dead set on not disturbing their moral framework. sauron and galadriel have already settled their positions by the end of s1. "sauron is just evil now" egregiously affects galadriel just as much as it continues to sanitise the elves.

keeping him alive would have also caused tensions with elrond and gil-galad. instead the drama now falls on to this glup shittothey have to start building up from scratch to make you feel bad for the orcs even though that already happened in s2.
again the magic is a classic π©βπ³π
and honestly I think his actual dialogue in the show is probably not gonna be much better. like a youth pastor who overuses therapy speak
