I'm excited to announce that I am teaming up with long-time friend and collaborator @MoniqueWoodard as a Venture Partner @cakeventures to invest in this next generation of visionary founders and disruptive companies that are building a future I want to live in.
I’m excited to welcome @shaherose to the @cakeventures team as Venture Partner. I've known Shaherose for 10+ years -- she started Women 2.0 around the same time that I was building Black Founders. We worked out of the same co-working space and became friends and co-conspirators.

And there you frickin’ go. Climate science has been screaming this was coming for decades. Greed + stupidity blocked action. I am one pissed off scientist. “The heat index reached 152 degrees in Middle East — nearly at the limit for human survival” washingtonpost.com/weather/2…

"Our world is built for a climate that no longer exists." OOOF. And we all see the proof.

We mirror and magnify each other’s light. We work against the forces of colonial consumer capitalism which seeks to divide us and set us against each other. It is gentle work. Steadfast work. Life-saving work.

A break to show this gem that just arrived at my house "In a moment in a breath" by @jhalifax. The kit is 55 deck meditations inspired by the 5 elements: Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Space. A simple way to help you tune in, cultivate compassion, and still the mind. – at Islington, London

Seeing each other’s values goes a long way toward helping us make sense of each other. Starting in the 1990s, psychologist Shalom H. Schwartz took on a beast of a project. He wanted to study this most abstract of things — human values — and look for patterns that held, even across different cultures. After conducting research in eighty-two countries, Schwartz had the data to back up a pretty amazing claim: There aren’t an infinite number of human values out there. There are only ten: stimulation, hedonism, achievement, power, benevolence, universalism, security, conformity, tradition, and self-direction. They're all important, but watch out. Some naturally oppose each other, like stimulation (seeking what's new) and conformity (blending in with a community). Fascinating, right? The things we hold valuable — and how we rank them for different issues — inform everything we believe and every position we take. Which of these values tend to top your list? #INeverThoughtOfItThatWay #ReclaimCuriosity

Chrissy, I explored the "Alice Waters response" to b & c here thebrainandbeyond.com/episod… My 1 week experiment landed me well below my usual grocery budget – & was beyond delicious. I did not spend more time. "A" is the thing: easy access to local / fresh is everything.

Thanissaro Bikkhu: What made the Buddha special was that he never lowered his expectations. He imagined the ultimate happiness, one so free from limit & lack that it would leave no need for further desire — and then treasured his desire for that happiness as his highest priority.

Here's something you should know about yourself: The more intelligent you are and the more education you gain, the better you become at rationalizing and justifying your existing beliefs and attitudes regardless of their accuracy or harmfulness. bigthink.com/the-well/change…
