The first Kering Generation Award x India, in partnership with Reliance Brands, was awarded in Delhi this week. Congratulations to Paiwand Studio ( Ashita Singhal ), Without® ( Anish Malpani ) and A Blunt Story ( Chandni Batra ). And to Cancelled Plans , Golden Feathers and MaLeeMa Eco Weaves for making the final six. My part: due diligence on all six finalists, for RBL. Six site visits. Plants, looms, sorting lines. Conversations with artisans and workers. Three things I’m taking away: Circularity is the easiest sustainability claim to overstate. Walk the floor. Trust but verify. Score merit and readiness separately. A compliance gap shouldn’t sink good science. Good science shouldn’t hide a compliance gap. India’s craft base is a real materials advantage. It deserves the same evidence bar as a lab material, not a pass for cultural resonance. I’ve mentored on the R|Elan Circular Design Challenge for about five years. So this was trajectory, not snapshot. Seeing founders I’ve coached get here was the best part. Thank you Darshana Gajare and the RBL sustainability team for the trust.

I mapped who funds climate in India. Not a list. A map of the money. 34 grant funders. 8 investors. 7 acquirers. Every one sourced. The honest part: India climate M&A is thin, mostly EV. We show 7 because that's what's real. Every node links to its source. If you can't verify it, we don't claim it. Free, public, sourced. climategrants.in/who-funds-c…

She is far from perfect. But she is mine. She will never ditch me. She will not ask for a VISA to accommodate me as she has soul and I am her son.
I was fascinated by the idea of migrating abroad when I was in middle school. I had heard so many “wow” stories about the sons and daughters of my father’s colleagues who had gone overseas. I wrote the SAT way back in 2003. Got multiple admits, including NUS and NTU. Everything was ready for me to migrate. But I also got admission to CEG, then among the best engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu. And I did the unthinkable. I chose Mechanical Engineering at CEG over NUS/NTU. Dad went wild! At the end of my undergraduate years, I had two choices: GRE or CAT. Dad wanted me to take the GRE and leave India at the earliest. I chose CAT. I stayed back. I eventually started a venture in one of India's most heavily regulated industries. And the regulators nearly killed my venture thrice. Closing down MSE. Slashing commissions at their whims and fancies. Arbitrarily increasing net-worth requirements and questioning the very viability of my business. There were moments when I wondered whether staying back had been a mistake. The system certainly gave me enough reasons to feel that way. Yet, by God's grace, I survived. Seventeen years of running a company in India. And despite everything, I still love this country. I don't entirely know why. Perhaps it is the mananimmathi I experience when I travel through her countryside. Perhaps it is the atma tripti her temples give me. Perhaps it is the inexplicable happiness I feel in Malnad, in my Pandya desam, or in my beloved Travancore whenever I set foot on that soil and walk its paths. Priceless. Absolutely priceless. Look at where India was in the 1960s and 1970s and where she is today. She has come a long way. From confiscatory 97% marginal income-tax rates to a much lower peak rate today. From a hopelessly Fabian socialist model to a mixed economy. From waiting endlessly for a Bajaj Chetak to being able to buy a Toyota in minutes. From waiting years for a telephone connection to becoming one of the world's cheapest mobile-data markets. From mud roads to expressways. From extreme poverty — remember Kamal Haasan eating an apple that had fallen into a gutter in Varumayin Niram Sivappu — to Shimla apples being available even in village markets. India has travelled an extraordinary distance. Of course, she could have done much better. She could have become another Singapore in terms of civic infrastructure, public services and urban planning. We have squandered decades and opportunities. There is no denying that. But she remains India. I take comfort in how far she has travelled despite decades of socialist policies and political mismanagement, rather than spending every waking moment complaining about everything that is wrong with her. I can criticise India. I can demand better governance, better infrastructure and better public services. I can be frustrated with her bureaucracy and regulations. But my affection for her runs deeper than my frustrations. And perhaps that is what people who constantly compare India with the West fail to understand. A country is not merely the quality of its roads, the efficiency of its bureaucracy or the size of its paycheques. There is also a sense of belonging, a civilisational connection and a peace of mind that cannot be measured on a spreadsheet. I would rather be a small soul in a country I love than spend my life as an indentured servant in a soulless system. I had my opportunities to leave. I chose to stay. Seventeen years later, with all the scars, setbacks and struggles, I still feel it was worth it. She is far from perfect. But she is mine. She will never ditch me. She will not ask for a VISA to accommodate me as she has soul and I am her son. And that makes all the difference.

Used an SI agent ;) today to book complex Europe train tickets, foreign language, stations I'd never heard of. It briefed, I approved, €400 spent, two cities sorted. But tickets are just the start. I want my reward points sorted, my grocery list done, my expenses recorded, my fridge restocked. An agent that remembers and gets really, really good at it. I want it to know which brand of yoghurt to buy and when is a good time to buy strawberries and mangoes. In India we call this Chhotu, the one who runs the house, tracks the monthly kharcha, refills the shampoo and the wine. And it cuts both ways, consumer agents like Chotu, and the agentic infrastructure underneath them. I'm writing the first check into a founder building exactly this. Want in? DM me or ping me on LinkedIn.

I keep a directory of India climate grants. 78 rows, every one verified against the funder's own page. The traffic data surprised me. The single most-clicked grant page this month isn't a government scheme. It's an accelerator. IIT Bombay SINE × IDFC FIRST Bank IGNITE. 33 clicks in 28 days. More than the homepage. Why? Because founders don't search "climate grants". They search the program names they heard about. And when they land, they want the deadline, the amount, and whether it's real. That's the whole job. One page, verified, deadline-first. The directory is the demo. The loop is the proof. climategrants.in

₹20L. Government money. Zero equity. Most founders never read the fine print that quietly disqualifies them. The ₹10L prior-funding trap. The entity-type filter. The 2-year DPIIT clock. I verified the SISFS rules against the funder pages and wrote it up for climate founders. Hat tip to @DakshinTalks for the original thread. climategrants.in/weekly And if you're past prototype, DIV Fund is open now. Up to $1.5M, non-dilutive, India eligible. We listed it too. I'm doing something fun. @marias_martin (Founding PM at @Biscuit_so) and I are running a live four-hour AI workshop where non-techies build real working tools for their own work. No coding needed. For founders, operators, marketers: anyone with a nagging everyday problem that tech could solve, if only they knew how. It's called Ai Aloo.

I've been mapping what climate founders in India actually struggle with. Finding grants is solved. Winning them is not. Founders are paying ₹30-50k to brokers for applications. No track record. No guarantee. Rejection locks you out for 3 months. What's the real gap you've hit? #ClimateTech #StartupIndia

0 for 10 on grants isn't a verdict on you. It's usually a sign you wrote a pitch. A grant isn't a pitch. It's a proposal to do work. The funder already decided the problem matters. That's why the program exists. Your only job is to show you can carry their mandate into the field. climategrants.in

Funders fear waste more than smallness. A tight, doable project with a real budget beats a grand vision. Specific beats ambitious, every time. They're handing you other people's money. Accountability is the product. Named people, real plan, honest risks. Help the program officer justify you to their board. Say what their money will actually change. A before and after. The people, the place, the number. Not revenue. What happened in the field. 0 for 10 usually means you applied as a founder. Grants want a steward. Fix that and the odds change

Mind boggling I see the science But .
Today, Pioneer Labs is announcing our first step towards terraforming Mars. 🚀🌼 With equipment that fits in just a single rocket launch, we can convert Martian dirt, water, and air into enough building materials to construct a small city on Mars. To do it, we made the first microbe for Mars. We found the best microbe on Earth and used evolution to teach it how to source all of its nutrients directly from Martian materials. The first astronauts will be greeted with safe shelter already filled with water, oxygen, and rocket fuel for the return journey. This is the first step toward using biology to make Mars a friendly place for life. It lets us live off the land and helps us build the next great frontier. It's the first of five organisms we need to green Mars ⬇️

Most climate founders apply to the biggest grant first. They lose. Small grants fund first. The ₹1 Cr prize pays for verified impact you don't have yet. I sequenced the non-dilutive ladder for a pre-revenue climate startup in India. Prototype → seed → prize → accelerator. Climb in order. climategrants.in/ladders/pre…
