We see no indication from Russia that it wants to end this war, or pursue any form of truce or peace.
That's why we need to help Ukrainians to get through winter and defend their country.
Ukrainians need more air defence. And we need to increase pressure on Russia to make it clear that they have to negotiate.

A good meeting with UK Prime Minister @AndyBurnham in London. We value our partnership and continue working together for security.
I briefed Andy in detail on Russian attacks against our cities, our people, and critical infrastructure. Wave after wave of drone attacks throughout the day and night today. Russia launched 124 drones overnight alone, and another 145 during the day. And right now, there are still more than 40 “shaheds” in our skies. They attack energy infrastructure, logistics, and railways. We managed to shoot down a significant number of the drones, but some got through. In terms of scale, this is one of the largest attacks. It is clear that the Russians are trying to take advantage of the problems with Starlink in Ukraine, as our interceptor drones depend on this connection among other things.
That is why it is especially important right now to strengthen our air defenses and provide Ukraine with everything it needs to protect lives. Today, a decision was made to accelerate deliveries of British-made air defense systems to Ukraine to counter jet-powered “shaheds.” And I am very grateful for this timely and much-needed assistance. I thank Andy, the people of the United Kingdom, the government, and His Majesty for their solidarity and support for our country during this brutal Russian war.

General der Panzertruppe Erwin Rommel visiting Italian gun emplacements in the area of Tobruk during September 1941.
There is a story that Erwin Rommel met with a group of Italian officers in the early stages of the war and during the social part of the visit, one of the Italian Officers, apparently unaware of Rommel's career, asked where he had earned his 'Pour le Mérite' (Blue Max), to which (according to the story) Rommel responded in a matter of fact sort of way, "Caporetto."

Lucian Truscott might be the most underrated American general of WW2. Patton and Bradley got the headlines. Truscott quietly became one of the best combat commanders the US Army had.
He grew up poor in Oklahoma and was teaching in a one-room schoolhouse before he joined the Army in 1917. As a kid he'd swallowed carbolic acid, which left him with a permanently rough, gravelly voice.
In 1942 he was sent to Britain to study the British Commandos. He came back with the idea for an American version. They became the US Army Rangers. A handful of them went along on the Dieppe Raid that August, among the first American soldiers to fight the Germans on the ground in Europe.
Then he took command of the 3rd Infantry Division. He trained his men to march five miles in the first hour and four miles an hour after that, mile after mile. It became known as the "Truscott Trot." In Sicily his division covered ground so fast it reached Palermo ahead of schedule.
In early 1944 the landing at Anzio had stalled, and Allied troops were pinned on the beachhead. Truscott was put in command of VI Corps. He held off fierce German counterattacks, rebuilt morale, and in May led the breakout.
He wanted to cut off the retreating German army. Instead he was ordered to turn toward Rome so it could be taken first. Many of the Germans he could have trapped escaped to fight again.
That August he led the invasion of southern France. His troops tore up the Rhône Valley, covering hundreds of miles in weeks. He finished the war commanding the entire Fifth Army in Italy.
On Memorial Day 1945, he spoke at the American cemetery near Anzio. Witnesses said he turned his back on the crowd and spoke to the graves instead. He told the dead he hoped they'd forgive him for the orders that put them there.
He never cared much about fame. He just kept winning.

Another strike on a Russian oil refinery in Omsk – one of the major refineries – as well as on the Ukhta oil refinery, 1,900 kilometers from Ukraine’s state border. The target in Ukhta was hit by An-196 RS drones, which can fly about 2,500 kilometers, while FP-6 drones (modified FP-1s) were used against the Omsk refinery the day before. We continue to respond to Russia’s attacks on Ukraine, and we’re doing so with high precision. Another data center was hit as well – our symmetrical response. An important display of accuracy by our warriors. Glory to Ukraine!

Russian strikes killed over 80 Ukrainian civilians in two days. Moreover, it has stepped up its hybrid attacks against Europe, both EU Member States and NATO Allies.
Suspending sanctions on Russian diesel provides Moscow with more revenues to wage war.
This is not the time to ease pressure on Russia, and Europe won’t.
On Monday, EU Foreign Ministers intend to approve the biggest set of sanctions listings targeting Russia’s war machine since the start of the war.

Russia has been carrying out attacks against Ukrainian civilians again.
Ukraine needs more Patriot interceptors before winter.
We are calling on Member States that have them in their stocks to provide them to Ukraine.
Member States have also recently agreed how to distribute €6.6 billion in European Peace Facility funds. That means at least €1 billion new funds for joint procurement.
This will strengthen cooperation among Member States on defence and support for Ukraine.

🇺🇸 George Patton trusted this battle-hardened badass as one of his guards.
Yet for years, the U.S. Army refused to let him fight. It gave him a truck to drive instead!
His name was Edward A. Carter Jr.
By the age of 24, Carter had already fought the Japanese in China, served in the Merchant Marine and battled fascists in the Spanish Civil War.
But when he joined the segregated U.S. Army in 1941, this experienced Black tough guy was assigned to a truck company.
Only after the Battle of the Bulge did the Army finally call for Black combat volunteers.
In March 1945, Carter’s provisional company joined the 56th Armored Infantry Battalion of the 12th Armored Division - the "Hellcats" - temporarily assigned to Patton’s Third Army.
On March 23, 1945, near Speyer, Germany, Carter volunteered to lead a four-man patrol across an open field under intense enemy fire.
Two men were killed. The third was seriously wounded. Carter continued alone.
Hit five times, he collapsed into cover. Eight German soldiers moved forward to capture him. They had chosen the wrong man!
Carter killed six, captured the remaining two and obtained valuable intelligence from them. There were nine bullet holes in his body.
This American hero received the Distinguished Service Cross, but not the Medal of Honor. He died in 1963. Only in 1997 did President Bill Clinton present the Medal of Honor to Carter’s son.
It took America 52 years to fully honor one of Patton’s toughest soldiers.
