about to mute this one because people have once again presumed i use twitter to have any sort of a conversation let alone debate
even with the myriad ways he was fucked over by the comics industry, alan moore really lucked out that his loudest and most persistent critics for 40 years have been adult fans of superheroes, just a lion lazily swatting away gnats with his tail
i feel like i must have read this at the time and then completely forgot, but either way 30 years later rivers being a big joe matt fan is a real "mr. policeman i gave you all the clues" situation
funny how the current version of this site is making me meaner and angrier than ever, but i'm also probably posting less than ever, so it probably evens out
comics vs. manga always essentially boils down to two groups fighting over which nation has the best YA books, but also there are probably more US comics readers who know about yoshiharu tsuge or kuniko tsurita than US manga readers who know about gary panter or lale westvind
the audience for anything actually interesting (and actually aimed at adults, rather than just more seinen melodrama or direct market genre junk) in both comics and manga was and remains extremely small, most of what's produced is mediocre or worse, true for anything
idly scrolling the replies/quotes to this and getting a real "there's probably no actual hope for the US" style headache
many replies (especially to the quotes) claiming the right is path to economic prosperity. buddy a turkey sandwich costs approx. $900 right now, the spending power of the US dollar is probably the last thing you want to use to prop up your rickety ideology
this looks mediocre at best but it's always hilarious to me how this comic turns 20 year old superhero fans into amateur mary whitehouses. "this comic is evil, it shouldn't be adapted!" it's a mean-spirited parody of the 00s zombie boom, complete non-issue, wrap it up etc.
by which i mean the first ennis run. the rest of it (from what i can tell) operates on the basic avatar press logic of there always being a small but enthusiastic audience of guys whose lives were forever changed by seeing the cover art for tomb of the mutilated
i mostly stay out of current punk/hc (certainly emo/pop-punk) discourse on here because i'm damn near 50, but it's always an interesting feeling when music you were "there" for recedes so far into the past that it becomes (at best) abstractly "classic" to current artists/fans
quote tweeting here because any good child into the fast ugly noisy chaotic obnoxious side of hc should enjoy this:
