Best commentary on our industryโs current moment. As usual, @scspeier does not miss.
(1/6) Glad youโre here @hassanrahim. Yes your reaction is correct. The reason people suddenly want to talk about this is that the cost of production is at the floor. Now that we can will anything into existence with the new tools, the people with the best โtasteโ are seen as more valuable to organizations than they have ever been. The fallacy is that โtasteโ is being treated as a credential you can sell. But the fallacy is that โtasteโ now means something that can be sold and not something that is unique.
Incredible how unintentionally prophetic this was.

Nothing is sacred
Netflix will be giving โCHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORYโ a major 45+ day exclusive theatrical release on November 5, 2027.
The film follows Taika Waititi as Willy Wonka when he returns to his factory after years in prison for turning a child into a blueberry.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The title is actually "Charlie vs. the Chocolate Factory."

Sebastian doesn't miss.
One interesting observation in this chart is the claim that demand has flipped from designers to PMs. It frames this as if orgs suddenly want fewer designers and more PMs, but that feels rooted in legacy titles, not how the work is actually getting done. On most product teams today, designers are already owning big chunks of โPM workโ โ discovery, framing, prioritization, and strategy โ and strong PMs are expected to bring real product taste and design sensibility too. Some orgs hire designers with strong product instincts, some hire PMs with strong design instincts, but in both cases theyโre really looking for the same hybrid profile. I think itโs way easier to route that through a PM headcount and PM job listing than through Design, especially if there is still a desire to hire strong crafters at bigger orgs that might not be able to ship a product on their own. So what this graph is really measuring isnโt a clean shift from Design โ PM, but more like.. the lag between how we label roles and the blended product + design work thatโs already happening.

"One Battle After Another" needs roughly $300 million to break even in theaters. The film's current $140 million gross is impressive for an original movie that's R rated and nearly three hours long, but the film is still tracking to lose $100 million.
Warner Bros. spent more than $130 million on production and $70 million on promotional efforts, and ticket sales are typically split 50-50 between studios and theater operators.
